DE S IGN CENTRE
THE PERSONAL TOUCH
The Design Club makes the ideal base for a day of sourcing, meetings and other work – and with day, annual and corporate memberships available, it’s flexible to meet every need
120 showrooms and 600 brands – just steps from all the inspiration you will ever need. With space to meet and work, a library of design books and magazines at your fingertips and drinks and light meals served, the club is that vital ‘third space’ that bridges the gap between a permanent office and being based at home. Membership is open to those in the creative industries,

with options for day, annual and corporate membership. Coming for a day is becoming increasingly popular as nomadic working becomes the norm – and day membership is also available to homeowners working on their own personal projects. Interior designers Sophie Skinner and Claire Ferguson
of Grove Interiors recently upgraded from day to annual membership. “It’s just brilliant,” says Skinner. Having lost the practice’s London base when she relocated to Berkshire, the Design Club is now their go-to place to meet up and work. “We’ll spend most of the day there: you can leave your bags, have lunch, and be able to potter around the Design Centre and come back,” she says. “It’s such a nice environment: busy enough that there’s a bit of a buzz to it, but quiet enough that you can concentrate. “I always find that I have such a productive day when
I’m there. You achieve so much more when you have a base. And it’s affordable.”
f you want to spend more time at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour and need a more formal base, membership of
the Design Club is the solution. This beautifully designed hub sits at the heart of Leave your coat and bags securely in the club and
head out for a day’s sourcing, dropping back in when you need to rest, refuel and get on with some concentrated work or have a meeting. The Design Club team, headed by manager Carol-Ann Boshoff, go out of their way to make sure that members are welcomed and cared for. “They always go the extra mile – but it’s not just for us. They go the extra mile for everybody,” says Judy Afia, managing director of Stark International, whose Design Centre carpet and rug showroom is just across the way from the club. She’s been a member since the club first opened, using it mostly for client meetings: “It’s a great opportunity to offer clients some extra hospitality in a beautiful space, and it always feels very private.” “We pride ourselves on recognising all our members,
even if they haven’t been in for a while,” says Boshoff. “We know them by name and remember what they like. Expect to receive a birthday greeting on your special day and find yourself featured on the weekly member profile post on the club’s Instagram account.” Membership also means invites to exclusive industry events, tailored to design professionals, and the space is also available to hire (see box). Samantha Knight of Samantha Knight
Interiors
runs a team of five people across both London and Mallorca, and uses the Design Club as a day member for sourcing and meetings. “Clients love the setting – more than they like visiting our office,” she says, “so I’ll come for client meetings along with another member
of the team, where we can spread out with a coffee and all our samples. The office can feel formal, but these kinds of meetings end up feeling more like an interactive workshop. “It’s a just a really focused place to be able to work.
Quiet, warm, friendly… It’s become a little extension of our team, in a way. And everyone is so helpful and nice, it makes you want to go back.”
