Continuing its investments in infrastructure and technology, Turkish Cargo launched three new services in different speed categories for the purpose of offering cost-saving, flexible and privileged shipments. Daniel Lloyd Johnson, senior vice president of cargo products and customer experience at Turkish Airlines, discusses the ‘Speed and Priority Services’ offered to global customers by Turkish Cargo.
What do your new services offer? Daniel Lloyd Johnson: We as Turkish Cargo provide the opportunity to benefit from affordable cost advantage, flexibility, privilege and expeditious shipment thanks to TK SMART, TK PREMIUM and TK URGENT: the ‘Speed and Priority Services’. All of our services are designed in a manner to complement each other and to provide solutions at three different levels of service for various requirements: ■
TK SMART, developed for general cargo shipments, provides our customers with the opportunity to save thanks to the affordable cost advantage it offers. By making use of such a service, which is the most preferred one for routine shipments, all shipments can be transported without being subjected to any limitation in terms of weight or size and without any special handling requirements. Unlike other regular cargo services, TK SMART provides customers with more alternatives and flexibility.

TK PREMIUM, which has been designed for priority shipments requiring a short service time, offers expeditious transit journey times, high priority at the operational processes, and flown as booked guarantee and also capacity guarantee. In addition to the short connection times, the LAT (latest acceptance time) and the TOA (time of availability) have been reduced throughout our flight network for TK PREMIUM.

TK URGENT, which has been designed specifically for the last-minute shipments that are of urgent nature, provides the opportunity to ship with the capacity guarantee, the shortest acceptance, minimum connection and the possible shortest journey time for such shipments. By making use of the TK URGENT service, shipments are carried as FAB (flown as booked) and with a 100% refund guarantee under certain circumstances and conditions. The ‘TK

Urgent Team’, which was developed and dedicated for such service, is not only accessible on 24/7 basis but also provides the facility to follow up the process from the time of the booking to after-sale.
Is it possible to dispatch any type of cargo by making use of these services? Do they involve your entire flight network?
TK SMART is a service that is appropriate for the carriage of only general cargo shipments. However, shipments may be dispatched with no limitation in terms of weight or volume by making use of all of such three services we offer. All shipments, accepted as part of the TK SMART, TK PREMIUM and TK URGENT services, may be transported to any destination, covered by the wide flight network of Turkish Cargo, as long as they match with the aircraft type and also the scheduled flight frequencies.
What kind of solutions do these services provide pharmaceutical transportation customers? Turkish Cargo’s TK URGENT service, which has been developed in a manner to be combined with all special and general cargo, including the CEIV certificated TK PHARMA, TK FRESH and TK LIVE products, enables the transportation of the
pharmaceutical shipments that are of urgent and a highly temperature sensitive nature. We have been receiving some portion of time-sensitive shipments such as the Covid-19 and other such vaccines, dental materials and drugs, and delivering them through the TK URGENT. Additionally, TK URGENT is addressed to the last-minute and urgent shipments of pharmaceutical products thanks to not only its dedicated and expert team, but also its dedicated vehicles, which are designed to expedite TARMAC time for transit shipments. The Turkish Cargo mega cargo facility, SMARTIST, strengthened the structure of the TK PHARMA product that has been designed by Turkish Cargo for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. Pharmaceutical and healthcare products are stored in dedicated storage areas with four different temperature ranges at the cargo terminal equipped with high technology. There is some 100m distance between parking positions of freighters and Constant Climate Center enables Turkish Cargo to carry out operations faster than before. Despite it having been designed primarily for general cargo, the TK PREMIUM service can also be used for perishable goods, pharmaceuticals and such other special products as well. ●
