LIGHT + TECH 141

Ghost pendant and floor light by Resident

The Ghost concept from New Zealand design house Resident comes in suspended and floor versions. The pared-down fitting is made from two pure borosilicate glass tubes. A warm LED light source projects invisibly through the glass, to illuminate the bottom edges. The result is an ethereal visual presence that belies a strong downlight source (2,700 lm). ‘It appears as an apparition due to the combination of two translucent tubes,’ says Resident. ‘This, in conjunction with an invisible light source, provides the trick.’ resident.co.nz

Across by Luceplan

Another variation on the linear suspension lamp theme, Across is the first collaboration between Luceplan and design studio Pio and Tito Toso. It comprises three interconnected axes of different sizes, allowing various compositions and levels of complexity. The structure is formed by a horizontal extruded body and two hinged elements that make it possible to attach the lamp to the floor or the ceiling. When placed perpendicular to the support base, the

tie-rods give a more formal profile, but when slanted create a more dynamic appearance.

The LED light source is slightly recessed within the central axis to provide uniform, glare-free illumination. The body of the lamp is struck by the light in different ways according to the position of the components which creates an additional play of light. Across comes in two sizes (180cm and 102cm) and two finishes (white or black). luceplan.com

Frenesi by FontanaArte

The Frenesi cocks a bit of a snook at minimalism with its Art Deco amalgam of angularity and wiggly lines. The 65cm wall version, featuring 19mm-thick curved glass diffusers that sit on a metal corner structure, is the first iteration in what is planned as a range of different variations and sizes. The lamp was designed by Studio Luca Guadagnino, a Milan-based interior architecture studio founded by 2017 Oscar-nominated director Luca Guadagnino, and specialising in contemporary mid-century Italian design. Murano glass specialist 6:AM researched and developed the lamp, which produces a characteristic soft warm glow. fontanaarte.com
