FIT FOR GREATER PURPOSE
Fencing manufacturers continue to innovate and push the boundaries. Sally Spencer reports
For many of us, the sole purpose of fencing is to mark a boundary and, perhaps, stop the dog escaping. If it can look good, then that’s a bonus.
For some fencing manufacturers, however, looking good and canine control are probably the bare minimum and innovation has continued to ensure that the humble fence panel is fit for even greater purpose. Jacksons Fencing, for example, has developed the Jaksun Solar Fence Panel, providing homeowners with a remarkable garden fence option that not only provides an attractive boundary but produces energy too. Incorporating conventional solar panels into its structure, this fence panel transforms outdoor spaces into hubs of green energy production, whilst enhancing aesthetics by combining it with Jacksons’ range of timber fence panels.
With a 425-watt capability per panel, the Jaksun Solar Fence Panel harnesses the power of renewable energy. Homeowners can optimise their energy production by strategically positioning panels in areas with maximum sunlight exposure, such as south- facing locations with minimal shading. The company says that installation is straightforward. Equipped with solar variants
of standard Jakposts, the Jaksun Solar Fence Panel seamlessly integrates cabling within its posts and capping rail, ensuring a tidy appearance without compromising on performance.
For connection to the mains electricity network, the expertise of a qualified solar installer is essential.
The solar fencing panels are backed by Jacksons Fencing’s 25-year guarantee against rot and insect attack for the timber, and a 25-year product warranty and 25-year linear power output warranty provided by the solar panel manufacturer.

Meanwhile, reducing noise for residents and businesses is the target of a new range of acoustic fence panels by Premier Forest Products.
Manufactured in the UK, the fence panels,
which have been tested and rated to achieve a noise reduction of 26 decibels, have been designed and engineered to reflect sound from motorways, roads, railways and other noisy environments.
Premier said the Scandinavian redwood panels, measuring from 1.8m high and featuring horizontal tongue and groove ‘V’ joint boards, are also anti-climb to deter intruders. The boards are interlocked and then bonded with an acoustic sealant for enhanced acoustic performance. Duchy Acoustic Fence is aimed at homeowners, while the Premier Reflect Acoustic Barrier is for large-scale projects where flexibility with installation is needed. The wider Premier Reflect panels cover a greater area for a faster fit and are stackable up to a height of 5m.
Premier Forest’s acoustic fence solutions are manufactured in accordance with BS1793 and are fully pressure treated to NHSS4 (National Highways Treatment Specification). Dave Say, Premier’s UK softwood products commercial manager, said the barriers provided solutions in a wide range of scenarios ranging from houses near railway lines, to schools hoping to minimise their impact on the local community. ■
