After slipping in June, Polish cow prices remained steady for the summer. Selections weighing 26/27kg sold for
€0.65–0.70. Bull prices, however, dropped €0.05 in July with 40kg selections selling for €1.20–1.25.
South Africa
African market prices were unchanged through the summer. Top-quality South African lamb
was still selling at $330.00–340.00 per dozen. Lamb HS1 was steady at $250.00 per dozen and lamb HS2 was also flat at $190.00–200.00. Prices for Lamb TRA were unchanged at $140.00 and those for Lamb TRB at $100.00.
Spain
Prices for lamb and sheepskin held steady through July after having dipped early in the season. Spanish
entrefino for nappa was unchanged at €15.00– 16.00. Entrefino doubleface was at €12.00–12.50. Double face merino prices were at €11.00–13.50. The lachaune selection remained stable at €5.00– 5.50. Prices are ranged to reflect the different regions in Spain, from lower end to top end quality. They are quoted on an FOB origin basis, per piece (5.5–7ft range, 6.5ft average).
Spanish cow prices eased a bit further in the summer, down €0.05 at €0.60–0.65/kg. Prices for bulls 40kg and up average green weight were likewise lower, selling at €0.95–1.00.
US
After months of weak demand and stagnant prices, July saw levels tick upward slightly as supplies became
tighter for popular steer selections. Heavy Texas steers managed to add a couple of dollars to their levels, selling for $27.00 for 62/64lb selections. The US cow market had good interest, but prices remained under pressure. Sales at steady prices were possible but it was next to impossible to improve on those levels. ●
Sweden
Swedish cow prices dipped €0.05 in July, selling for €1.45/kg. Bull prices continued to soften
with 34kg and up average green weight selections selling for €1.70.
Turkey
Turkish raw materials saw additional declines in July. Bulls were selling at US$1.05–1.15/kg while cows were
down US$0.25 at $0.75–0.80/kg. Even after the country’s elections, a lot of uncertainty remained regarding the economic situation. In addition, in the post–holiday period after Eid, the market was quiet.
UK
English prices were lower by the end of July. The 36kg and above ox was at £0.70/kg.
