Brazil


Brazilian raw material fluctuated between steady levels and slowly declining values through most of


the summer. The average price of fresh hides fell another $0.12, falling below the R$1.00 threshold to sell for R$0.90/kg. The reference price of TR1 slipped just $0.01 again thanks to persistently high costs. The price was at US$0.65 per square foot. Brazil’s June exports of hides and skins totalled US$97.6m. This was an increase of 6.9% over May, but it was 15% lower than the same month last year when US$114.7m were exported. The data comes

Colombia’s raw material market held on to steady levels through July. Salted hides weighing 26–28kg


were still selling for US$0.40/kg, while those at 30–32kg were selling for US$0.50/kg. Wet-blue TR1/TR2 20/22mm and above was also unchanged at US$0.42/ft2

Finnish cow hide prices remained steady. Trading was reported unchanged at €1.30 for hides


delivered to northern Italian tanneries. Bulls were also unchanged with average green weights of 34kg and up selling for €1.50/kg.

Top quality still reigns when it comes to raw material, especially veal skins. The issue this summer was a lack of

larger sizes. French black/white selections weighing 8–12kg were steady at €5.00–5.40 and those over 13kg were also unchanged at €6.50–7.00. The price for 13kg and above luxury selections stabilised at €7.20–7.50 after having softened at the start of the summer. The 8–12kg luxury selections also levelled off and remained at €5.60–6.00. Prices are per kilogram, delivered to northern Italian tanneries on a 30-day payment plan.
