MAMMOET LAUNCHES WORLD’S STRONGEST LAND-BASED CRANE

At the end of August Mammoet launched the world’s strongest land-based crane: the SK6000 ring crane. It has a lifting capacity of 6,000 tonnes and, with its jib, stands over 200m tall. Mammoet believes the crane is the

answer to lifting the larger and heavier components now starting to be used in the energy industry, especially offshore wind. These components require correspondingly larger cranes, it says. The crane design uses containerisation techniques for ease of deployment and it can be transported using shipping containers to any location worldwide. As well as diesel it can be powered

electrically – by battery or from the grid. “This crane is truly a world record feat of engineering, with a production schedule to match,” said Gavin Kerr, director global services at Mammoet. “Hundreds of colleagues have been directly involved with its development across the business. There are very few companies on earth – if any – that could have brought this crane into reality, and we are immensely proud to be able to do so.”

The SK6000 is currently undergoing testing at Mammoet’s Westdorpe facility in The Netherlands, ready for deployment to its first project later in the year. NEW LIEBHERR MK MOBILE CONSTRUCTION CRANE

Liebherr announces a new addition to its mobile construction crane range: the MK 120-5.1. The five-axle machine bridges the

gap between the MK 88-4.1 and the MK 140-5.1 – upon which it is based. The new crane has a 52 metre jib

(compared to 65 m on the MK 140-5.1) and a maximum lifting capacity of 2.1 tonnes at its jib head (compared to 1.9 t on the MK 140-5.1). One of the mobile construction crane’s

key advantages, says Liebherr, is its agility; it has a small turning circle to facilitate site access in restricted space. The new model is equipped with Liebherr’s latest 12-inch TC-OS display – which can be used in either split or full screen modes. One of the first customers for the

new crane is Swiss company Zaugg AG Rohrbach. A company from Belgium has also already put in an order. Deliveries will start in summer 2025.
