OCTOBER 2024 Ӏ JOB OF THE MONTH
Austrian crane and transport provider Kostmann was commissioned by Austrian electricity company Verbund Hydro Power to provide a crane for the removal of sediment from the Roßwiese reservoir. For the job Kostmann sent its new Wolff
8060.25 Cross tower crane, one of its most powerful models, to the site – which was at an elevation of 1,200 metres. With a maximum lifting capacity of 25 tonnes and a tip load capacity of 14 tonnes at a jib length of 50 metres the crane was used to lift troughs weighing up to 18 tonnes of excavated material from the reservoir to the deposit site. Nearly 20,000 cubic metres of sediment material were moved in less than a month. Access to the construction site was particularly challenging. Crane parts coming from Vienna had to be reloaded in the valley. Only trucks with short trailers could traverse the six-kilometre forest road with ten hairpin turns which could only be driven on after three days of dry weather! The transport and assembly of the crane took
three days. Kostmann is a new customer for Wolffkran
Austria; the crane's purchase came about specifically because of this project, says Wolffkran. “The Wolffkran team not only made us a
very interesting offer but also ensured that the transport, erection and dismantling of the crane went off without a hitch, despite the challenging location of the site,” elaborates David Pucher, site manager of Kostmann. In mid-August 2024 the Wolff 8060.25 was successfully dismantled and returned to Vienna.
