HAMMERHEAD AT pERuvIAN poRT
A Liebherr 630 EC-H 40 Litronic hammerhead tower crane is being used for the construction of a quay at the Port of Salaverry in Peru. At this port—situated in the north of the country—various types of cargo is being handled, including wheat, corn, sugar, fertilizers and mineral concentrates.
Although the activity is
currently concentrating on imports, the growth of the agribusiness in surrounding regions (Incash, La Libertad, Lambayeque and Cajamarca) could trigger a significant export expansion. The construction of
the new quay will allow the port to receive larger vessels, offer wider range of services and increase
its maximum throughput. Liebherr’s local dealer Agrumaq supplied the 630 EC-H 40 Litronic mounted on a rail to the project’s general contractor Brazilian consortium Redram–Tucumann. Henning Köhler, head of tower cranes division at
Liebherr Chile, said this lifting solution was selected because the customer was familiar with the crane, having previously used it for another port project in Peru (in Paracas).
The hammerhead, which has a maximum capacity of 40t, was erected last July and is freestanding at 45m with 50m radius. It has been helping with the construction of grain storage bins. The heaviest loads lifted by the crane were 16t concrete pieces. The disassembly is
expected to take place in July, two months ahead of schedule. Köhler attributed the reduction in the time needed to complete the job to the tower crane’s high performance.

Four Wolff 166 B hydraulic luffers and one Wolff 180 B luffer were used for the construction of the two residential blocks of the Nine Elms development in London, UK.
Located in the heart of
Vauxhall, with a contract value of £314.2m, the Nine Elms development will consist of 894 build-to-rent residential units, tenant amenity space and retail units.
Block D has been built
with two Wolff 166 Bs, while Block B has been built with two Wolff 166 Bs and one Wolff 180 B. All cranes are
freestanding with heights ranging from 54m to 72m.

Property developer Telford Homes will have Block D occupied while Block B is still under construction. To minimise on site activity and with the residents in mind the scheme was changed to have one Wolff 180 B, which can dismantle two of the four Wolff 166 Bs. “This reduced the need for
visits by large mobile cranes and gives a much more environmentally friendly solution,” said Wolffkran. The phased development
is expected to be completed in late 2024 and will provide easy access to two new London Underground stations on the extended Northern Line on the south side of the River Thames.
