470T GENERAToR REMovAL

Algerian heavy lift company Global Freight Transit used an Enerpac SBL1100 hydraulic gantry to lift a 470t generator at the Koudiet Eddraouch power station in El-Tarf province, Algeria.

One of the largest combined-cycle

power plants in the region, Koudiet Eddraouch power station has a production capacity of 1200 MW. Maintenance of generators can be difficult, as space is limited inside the power plant. The SBL1100 gantry was used to lift the generator 4.1m onto supports, allowing maintenance work to be completed before it was lowered back into its housing. “The Enerpac SBL1100 is invaluable

for this kind of lift where we have heavy loads and limited workspace,” said Sofiane Issiakhem, logistics coordinator at Global Freight Transport. “Ease of deployment and operation of the gantry has allowed us to safely conduct

similar generator lift projects in another powerplant nearby.” This hydraulic gantry model is equipped with three stage lifting cylinders, and can lift up to 12m at the

top of the third stage and can handle up to 1178t at the top of the first stage. As standard, it features an Intelli- Lift wireless control system allowing unobstructed views of the load.

THREE-AXLE TADANo RETuRNS HoME

A Tadano ATF 50G-3 from Nuremberg crane service provider Gebrüder Markewitsch’s fleet, was used for the construction of crane washing bays at Tadano’s plant in Lauf an der Pegnitz, Germany. Setting-up housing for its crane washing bays was necessary, as Tadano repurposed the former covered winter washing bay to create a small parts painting area. The location chosen for the new bays was that of the former outdoor washing areas. A pit and a surrounding platform, now allow comprehensive washing work to be carried out even in winter or during adverse weather conditions. A Tadano ATF 50G-3 returned to its

birthplace to assist with the roofing and enclosure of the two bays. It was

tasked with lifting several dozen girders and posts of the steel structure as well as the roof structure, which were placed on top of the open wash bays. The heaviest steel trusses weighed in at 2t. The area to be enclosed covers 20m x 20m and is over 7m high. The three-axle all terrain crane with

its 40m long main boom and maximum lifting radius of 46m was able to handle this construction site single-handedly without any problems. Andre Markewitsch, managing

director of Gebrüder Markewitsch, said: “Our 50-tonner was able to use this home game to show exactly what it’s made of yet again: it’s compact, flexible and yet powerful enough to handle even medium-sized jobs independently.”
