Micronclean breaks ground on £20 million carbon-zero cleanroom laundry campus

Micronclean has started development on what is describes as the world’s first operationally carbon-zero industrial laundry, marking, it says, a historic milestone not only in the cleanroom industry but also for the local community. The £20 million investment represents a bold step in Micronclean’s long-term growth strategy and a strong commitment to supporting the regional economy through infrastructure development and sustained local partnerships. The project is being developed on a newly acquired 20-acre site on the outskirts of Skegness, Lincolnshire, which will become home to Micronclean’s innovative Cleanroom Campus, an advanced facility designed to shape the future of the company’s UK operations over the next decade.

The multi-phase development plan includes the construction of a GMP Grade B (ISO Class 5) Cleanroom Laundry, new manufacturing facilities for medical devices and cleanroom consumables, a modern warehouse, and a new head office. These facilities will strengthen Micronclean’s operational excellence, expand its production capabilities and reinforce its leadership in sustainable cleanroom services. Phase One, is now underway and will focus on delivering the world’s first operationally carbon-zero cleanroom laundry. The initial phase is scheduled to be operational during 2028 and will set a new global standard in sustainability, while delivering uncompromising hygiene and quality standards.

EDITOR’S COMMENT

Forward motion

In December, 140 years ago, LCNi first appeared in London as The Laundry Journal. And here we still are having gone through a few name changes along the way, one of which was Power Laundry (love the strength of that title) before, in the latter half of the 20th century, with drycleaning becoming such big business, we became Laundry and Cleaning News.

NORTH AMERICA TRSA strengthens Canadian engagement at Canadian/Pacific Northwest Summit

TRSA, the association representing the $50 billion North American linen, uniform and facility services industry, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its Canadian membership by hosting the Canadian/ Pacific Northwest Summit, held 1–2 October at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown. The event brought together industry leaders from across Canada and the US Pacific Northwest for two days of strategic collaboration, innovation, and insight. This summit marked a significant investment by TRSA to ensure Canadian members are actively represented at both the association and advocacy levels. Shortly after, TRSA concluded its 2025

regional Production Summits in Philadelphia, 22–23 October. The two-day event brought together industry professionals for a robust programme of education, networking and operational insight.

The summit featured a full day of educational sessions followed by a networking reception and concluded with a plant tour showcasing advanced automation in textile services. Nick Palermo of Morgan Services praised the summit, saying:“This was a very informative and value-added program. I would definitely attend again and plan to send others from my plant.” His feedback reflects the summit’s impact on driving practical improvements and professional development across operations.

Well, we are still breaking new ground. Next year, 2026, will see the addition of a new regular feature – Engineer’s Notebook, written by Dr Richard Neale. it will address everything mechanical to robotics and AI in laundries and take its place alongside our other expert master class features Material Solutions, What Went Wrong and Trade Secrets. Another change is that Steve Anderton of LTC Worldwide will take over writing Material Solutions, and we take great pleasure in welcoming him to the team.

In other news, in this issue, we have a super Spotlight on the UK. Frustratingly we go to press ahead of the much anticipated Budget from Chancellor Rachel Reeves so you will need to keep an eye on our website for news of the industry’s reaction to that, but you can see what TSA Chair Charlie Betteridge has to say about the state of the nation right now (page 8). Happy reading, a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all.
