ello and welcome to the December issue of Hoist magazine, my first as Editor. Given that I started the job around the time the famous black door at No. 10 Downing
Street in London was replaced by one that revolves, I think it’s appropriate that I begin my time at Hoist by quoting a former British prime minister (no, not one of 2022’s) – someone who highlighted the significance of “events, dear boy, events”. Harold Macmillan might have considered ‘events’

Equipment Engineers Association’s LiftEx exhibition and awards (you can read about the latter in this issue). Like the virtual conference, it represented a great learning opportunity, and I have to say thanks to those individuals who set aside some of their time for a friendly chat. I’d also like to extend my thanks to my predecessor,
Jenny Eagle, particularly for upping the magazine’s profile within the industry, which has proven invaluable, and for helping me to settle in before her move to a new industry. Of course, I intend to continue Jenny’s good work, and
not implement any radical changes that might ‘upset the market’ – a plan that one recent resident of No. 10 might regret not following…
