NASSAU CONTAINER PORT ORDERS KONECRANES GOTTWALD MOBILE UNITS
handling at its terminal in Arawak Cay, Nassau, Bahamas, to be delivered in July 2023.
N With a joint government and private
shareholding, Arawak Port Development (APD)/NCP has a mission to facilitate port growth and business expansion in the region. Its NCP operations plays a significant role in this task as the largest container handling operation in Nassau. Throughput has recovered to pre- pandemic levels and NCP expects this upward trend to continue. So, it decided to invest in a new crane with the advanced technology necessary to increase capacity and take it further along the path to electrification. “Terminal development is a continuous
process, and we’re interested in the best available lifting equipment that suits our needs both now and in the future,” said Dion Bethel, president/CFO, APD. “Konecranes was able to offer us an easily adaptable, high-performance hybrid solution that will help us build even more capacity as we ready our port for shore power and greater energy efficiency. We also appreciate Konecranes’ digital services, which provide deep insight into the crane’s performance and condition.” The Generation 6 Konecranes
Gottwald ESP.7 Mobile Harbor Crane has a working radius of 51m and a lifting capacity of 125t to serve vessels up to post-Panamax class. It features a high tower cab for a better view of the vessels in port and stronger lifting capacity curves for improved handling performance and a higher classification, doubling service life in container handling operations. The crane uses Konecranes
hybrid drive, which comprises a diesel generator set paired with an ultracapacitor that can be recharged by energy recovered from lowering and braking motions. This gives the power needed for peak performance, while saving fuel when moving lighter loads. For more insight into how its crane is operating, NCP chose TruConnect
