COMMENT Clever lifting
March 2026 Issue 271 T
he hoist and lifting industry is entering a new phase of intelligent automation, where advanced controls, smart diagnostics and integrated data systems are redefining performance expectations. From automated crane operations and remote monitoring, to increasingly sophisticated controls that enhance
precision and safety, digitalisation is reshaping how lifting equipment is specified and managed. Reflecting this momentum, events such as LogiMAT 2026 continue to highlight the convergence of materials handling, automation and software, underlining the growing role of connected, high-efficiency lifting solutions within the wider intralogistics landscape. In this month’s issue of Hoist we preview the upcoming LogiMAT 2026 in Stuttgart as it brings together
exhibitors across the industry to showcase their latest products and solutions. With the latest cutting-edge innovations and products on show for the first time, ‘Passion For Details – Discover the Difference’ is the theme for this year’s show. Find out more on page 38. On page 14, we find out what shaped Bernard Doughty, Carl Stahl Evita managing director and how being accessible, supportive, honest and committed to those around him are reflection of the company’s beliefs. Elsewhere, in our project of the month, rope manufacturer Voigt Seil- und Hebetechnik in Bad Düben, a service partner of STAHL CraneSystems, completely replaced the crane system for the opening the bulkhead at the bottom outlet in the Rappbode Dam on page 8. Automation is just one of many new technologies that are changing industrial construction, and in the lifting industry semi and fully automated lifting equipment offers a number of benefits. From optimising material flow to ensuring operations are safer for workers, Julian Champlin explores the differences between semi and fully automated lifting and the key benefits on page 30. I hope you enjoy the latest edition of Hoist as we continue to spotlight the innovations, market developments and industry leaders shaping the future of lifting.
