DONATI SOLLEVAMENTI RELIES ON TECHNOLOGY FOR MORE EFFICIENT PRODUCTION
Manufacturing Manager of the Agrate Brianza plant, where the company manufactures jib cranes and rope and chain hoists, exporting them all over the world, tells us about this important development. After a careful evaluation lasting

several years, the choice of supplier ultimately landed on Tecnorobot, a company founded in 1993 and specialised in the research, development, production and sale of robot systems integrated exclusively with FANUC robots and FRONIUS welders. Tecnorobot, located near Agrate Brianza, is internationally recognised for its innovative solutions in industrial automation. Its geographical proximity confirms Donati’s preference for local suppliers, ensuring logistical and operational synergy. The decision to partner with Tecnorobot was influenced by the technical soundness of their proposals and the positive reputation already established with other Donati suppliers using their systems. The project took a year to define, including six months dedicated to aligning the workshop layout for the installation of the servo system. This methodical process involved the
integration of two new overhead cranes, which are closely linked to the robot to ensure high standards of intrinsic safety, a fundamental aspect for Donati. During robot operations, the overhead cranes are programmed not to enter the plant areas, thus ensuring a safe working environment. Among the welding specialists working in the plant, two qualified professionals were selected and trained to use the new robot. They attended a week-long intensive programming course, with the support of the technical department, and now operate completely independently. In the future, it will be possible to

implement 3D programming, further expanding operational capabilities. The introduction of this system
aims to increase productivity while reducing inaccuracies associated with manual welding. Tecnorobot provided valuable support with remote assistance, facilitating the initial stages of implementation. This investment in staff training towards automation speeds up production processes, eliminating the complexities and problems associated with welding operations, which are often burdensome and potentially harmful to operators. Our analyses indicate a potential time saving of at least 50% on this type of operation. As Giovanni Barletta, Sales Director of Donati Sollevamenti, points out: “We
have always focused on innovation and continuous improvement to meet the needs of our customers: faster delivery dates and top quality. Hence the need to rely on advanced technology.” Looking to the future, the company
envisages a second phase in which it will carry out the welding of semi-finished products in-house. This will allow Donati to exert even greater control over the entire production process, from the first to the last stage of the chain, ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency. In conclusion, the adoption of the
welding robot represents a significant step for Donati on the path towards innovation and operational excellence, strengthening its position in the global lifting market.
