Fleet preview Equipment: Safety:

A rear parking aid with distance display, cruise control and speed limiter, lane departure warning, efficiency assistant and attention and drowsiness assistant are all standard on the third-generation Q5. Other optional assistance packages are available,

Three trims – Sport, S line, and Edition 1 – will be available and standard kit includes MMI navigation plus a high-resolution 14.5in OLED touchscreen colour display, Audi virtual cockpit with 11.9in OLED colour display and LED lights. The clever new safety triangle rear light signatures will be on the Edition 1 high-spec launch model. Various assistance packages can also be optioned (see safety).

including Adaptive Driving Assistant plus, which uses high-resolution map and ‘swarm’ data from other vehicles calculated in the cloud to optimise traffic sign recognition and assist with acceleration, maintaining speed and distance as well as lane guidance. Active Front Assist combines four assistance functions: Front Emergency Brake Assist, Evasion Assist, Turn Assist and Front Cross Traffic Assist. Other assistance systems available include traffic sign-based cruise control, Park Assist plus Rear Turn Assist.

Powertrains:

The Mk3 Q5 range will be offered with three powertrain options all utilising Audi’s seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and mild hybrid technology: a 204hp 2.0 TFSI petrol unit with front and Quattro all-wheel drive, 204hp 2.0 TDI diesel Quattro and a sporty 367hp 3.0 V6 TFSI in the SQ5 Quattro. Fuel consumption and CO2 ratings are yet to be confirmed.

A PHEV version will also follow, slated for mid-to-late 2025.

Technology:

The Q5’s head-up display (HUD) option is unusual for being individually configurable. Indeed, Audi claims that the option of scrolling through various HUD-based infotainment lists and being able to select different options via steering wheel buttons is a ‘first’ for Audi. For example, drivers can select recent sat-nav destinations without looking away rom the road and also see and reply to recent phone calls. The infotainment software also includes AI support with voice learning to control various functions, and on the Q5 this ‘Audi Assistant’ now comes with its own ‘four-dot’ avatar for the first time. On the outside, the rear lights’ ability to display multiple moving red triangle symbols within its cluster – as a warning to drivers behind that an incident has taken place – is also new.

Costs:

UK customers can place orders from October 2024, with first right-hand vehicle deliveries to these shores expected in the spring of 2025. Business Car estimates prices starting from just under £50,000. And a Q5 coupé variant should arrive in mid-2025.
