Flexibility key to the drive to electric

As businesses face uncertainty over EV legislation, Grosvenor Leasing discusses how it can provide flexible solutions to ease the shift to electric vehicles for all fleets.

fter Labour announced it would stick to its manifesto to reinstate the 2030 phase-out for new petrol and diesel cars, there is now ambiguity as to what that means for car and van operators.

A consultation is expected to look at defining what specifications a car or van must have to be officially categorised as a ‘hybrid’ which can continue to be sold from 2030-2035. The consultation is also expected to cover vans as well as cars, with the BVRLA highlighting the challenges facing electric van adoption with industry and government.

According to Grosvenor Leasing, never has it been more important to offer car and van operators flexibility in the EV transition. As a result, the UK’s largest privately owned contract hire and fleet management specialist has launched two innovative solutions aimed at companies with car and/or van fleets.

EValuate offers high-quality, used electric vehicles over flexible lease periods, with an emphasis on electric cars and vans that are two to three years old.

It enables customers to lease an electric car from one month to three years, with the freedom to return the vehicle without commitment after one month. This gives companies and their drivers the ability to assess EVs. For van operators, Grosvenor’s Electric Van Flexible Switch programme allows companies to source an ICE (internal combustion engine) van through a flexible contract that enables them to switch

to an EV when suitable zero- emission models become available. Grosvenor can also help to expand the benefit of electric vehicles to all staff, through its market-leading, risk-free salary sacrifice scheme. This enables employees to lease an ultra-low emission or electric vehicle using their pre-tax salary which can reduce the cost of sourcing a new car by 40%. The salary sacrifice scheme can also be used to fund the installation of a home charger and the entire scheme can be set up within a day or so.

“The risk-free element of our salary sacrifice scheme means that if an employee leaves the business they can hand the vehicle back free of charge, with no minimum terms or caps,” said Steve Beadle, head of 0Zone at Grosvenor.

“If a driver enters extended sick or maternity/paternity leave, protection for both the employee and the employer is included. This is a particularly important feature of our offering because it means that companies can implement it with complete peace of mind.”
