Genesis Electrifi ed G80 Luxury Line Electric version of the G80 increases its relevance, majoring on range and refinement.

When we first drove the G80 last year, we had low fleet aspirations for it, as at the time it was only available with a large 2.5- litre turbo petrol engine - which equalled a top 37% BIK. Over a year on, Genesis’s move to electric has gone apace with last summer’s launch of the excellent GV60 hatchback and an EV version of the G80 soon followed that we drive here, along with the Electrified GV70.
The Electrified G80 saloon we have is in range-topping Luxury spec. Outside, it

looks largely the same as the ICE model, although the grille is now sealed and hides the charging point on the left-hand side, and there’s a new front airdam. At the side, there are unique 19in alloy wheels. While at the back, there’s a new rear bumper without the cut outs for the exhaust. Like the standard car, the G80 manages to look like other luxury models but is still identifiable as something different. Key to this is the ‘four-dash’ front and rear light signatures, the large front grille, and the sleek fastback- like styling. Although the G80 is a regular saloon.
Highlights on our test car, with its £3,840 Innovation Pack, include Remote Smart Parking, Surround-View Monitor Cameras, and Highway Driving Assist. Plus, the £1,170 Convenience Pack brings a powered boot, rear climate control, and heated steering wheel.
Positive
Distinctive styling, luxurious interior, refi nement, EV range, charging speeds
Negative
Expensive, compromised boot, possible depreciation
That’s not the end of the option packs on the test car, either. Our G80 also had the £4,960 Comfort and Executive Pack that includes soft-close doors, window blinds and laminated rear glass. Altogether, this equalled an eye-watering £84,545 total price.
Inside, the same level of attention to detail impresses. It is obvious that the Genesis engineers and designers have spent a lot of time in premium rivals, as with all the wood and optional Nappa leather trim, the G80 feels more special than most. Front or back, the G80 is spacious too.
There’s plenty of the latest tech, too.
The Electrified G80 might look like the ICE powered models, but it’s all change underneath. Based on the same 800-volt architecture as the GV60, it has an 87.2kWh battery and two electric motors, equalling 364hp and a range of 323 miles, with 0-60mph in an exceptionally brisk 4.9 seconds – especially considering its considerable 2.3-tonne weight.
When it comes to charging, Genesis Data is from Kee Resources based on a three-year/60,000-mile cycle

claim this G80 can charge from 10-80% in just 22 minutes and at charging rates of up to 180kW.
The Electrified G80 is an impressive performer according to the figures, but it’s all about the refinement on the road. The ride generally cossets, and with no engine noise the interior is whisper quiet - unless you make the most of the punchy Lexicon sound system. In corners, the steering has a good amount of feel and is precise – the handling is tidy and there’s a decent level of grip.
To sum up, we liked the Genesis G80 for its majestic interior, however the Electrified version adds efficiency, even more refinement, plus a long range, and all at 2% BIK.
