Safety: Technology:

With its two core computers and use of a higher-definition version of Google’s mapping software giving lane-level and localisation information – key for autonomation, it’s no surprise that Volvo are dubbing the EX90 as its safest car yet. This is combined with the standard lidar sensor on the roof, five radars, eight cameras and sensors. Plus, AI platforms whose maps should help drivers receive what Volvo expects, will be a seamless driving experience on EX90s fitted with Pilot Assist, this is Volvo’s comfort function that keeps the car within its own lane and a safe distance from vehicles in front of you. The computers won’t go out of date either, as they can be updated over air.

Elsewhere, there is the latest version of the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ DRLs that open up to full matrix LED headlights. There is also a 3D sound system that’s provided by Bowers & Wilkins, and bi-directional charging, a system offering owners the opportunity to power their home, store power and even sell any surplus electricity back to the grid!

The EX90 is fitted with a driver understanding system, which works via two interior sensors and a capacitive steering wheel feeds driver information to an algorithm, communicating with the car’s exterior sensors. So, if the driver is distracted or drowsy, this Volvo can step in and take over. An occupant sensing system helps prevent anyone from being inadvertently left in the car. This Volvo will also react to oncoming drivers when making a right turn and notify the driver of potential hazards from the sides when going through a junction.

Costs:

Although there are no specific specifications, the EX90 is available for order via the Volvo UK website, with prices starting at a considerable £96,255 for the Ultra and UK deliveries are expected to start early next year.
