Fleet preview Volvo EX90 Martyn Collins gets a closer look at Volvo’s new EV SUV flagship, the EX90. Interior: Exterior:

The EX90’s design is more evolution than revolution, with the basic shape following on from the current XC90. Still, there isn’t much wrong with that, despite the design dating back to 2015 and the plan is the XC90 will carry on alongside the EX90, while there’s still demand for ICE engined vehicles. The big changes for the EX90, are the blanked-off grille, flush-fitting door handles that push out when this Volvo is unlocked, frameless door mirrors, aerodynamic alloy wheel designs up to 22in, a hump at the front of this Volvo’s roof to hold the Lidar sensor and at the back, the rear light clusters are now split.

Considering that Volvo are going big on the EX90’s technology, again the feeling in this Volvo’s cabin is evolution. The horizontal dashboard design is dominated by the 15in central touch screen, that controls almost everything in this car. However, like the XC90 and other current Volvo models, the materials and detailing impress. The matt wood trim we saw, contrasting perfectly with the chrome. There’s no leather trim, instead we were told there would be a number of more sustainable/Scandinavian fabric options. Elsewhere, the gear selector has moved from the centre console to the steering column. Now there’s just a play/pause volume rotary control on the centre console. Like the XC90 before it, the EX90 was designed from the ground up to be a seven-seater – so the basic footprint is the same.

Equipment:

Volvo has yet to share any specific specifications for EX90 models, but we were told there were no options considering prices start at just under the £100,000 mark.
