Fleet preview Volkswagen ID.7
The wraps have come off Volkswagen’s fifth ID EV model, the ID.7 and it has the Tesla Model 3 in its sights. Martyn Collins takes a closer look.
Interior:
Inside, again we get the feeling that Volkswagen has again played it safe, following the same ID family design conventions. However, clever touches such as the panoramic sunroof that can be switched from opaque to transparent, optional massage front seats and an augmented head-up display, up the luxury feeling inside the ID.7. On top of the new touchscreen infotainment, there’s also a smaller screen neatly integrated into the dashboard in front of the driver, to display the speed and range amongst other things.
Exterior:
With its wheelbase almost measuring five metres, the ID.7 is longer than its ICE equivelent - the Passat. The ID.7’s overall look is sleek and elegant, especially with coupe-like roofline. The fifth member of Volkswagen’s electric family has to be their best-looking car this side of the
ID.Buzz SUV. However, the family sealed grille and light bars front, and rear may look neat, but overall we think it is a bit generic. The ID.7’s shape could also be colour sensitive, as out of the white and blue cars in the official pictures, the white car shows the styling details noticeably better.
