Technology:
Biggest interior news, however, is the fitment of a new 15in infotainment touchscreen, running a heavily re-worked version of Volkswagen’s generally disliked MIB software. Key changes include a direct-access bar at the top of the touchscreen, making access to key features as quick as
possible. Volkswagen also tells us that the Home screen can be configured to show the driver’s most commonly used apps. The climate controls are now permanently located at the bottom of the screen and the touch slider for the temperature and audio volume are finally lit so you can use them in the dark.
Elsewhere, the ID.7 is the first Volkswagen that has an augmented reality head-up display as standard. Plus, a 700W, 16-channel, 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and ergoActive 14-way electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation and massaging functions available as options.
Safety:
All the expected safety kit is standard in the ID.7, but this electric Volkswagen debuts a new version of Travel Assist allowing autonomous driving with assisted longitudinal and lateral control on multi-lane motorways from 56mph – plus lane changing. It works by detecting speed limits from the camera and navigation data, then integrates them into the assisted longitudinal control function of the Travel Assist. In addition, the system also recognises parameters such as bends, roundabouts, and junctions.
Equipment:
Volkswagen has yet to share any specific specifications for ID.7 models. However, we would expect standard equipment to follow or better other ID models.
Costs:
Like the specifications, Volkswagen haven’t shared any specific UK pricing for the ID.7, but we’re estimating that prices will start at around the £50,000 mark when it goes on sale in the U.K at the end of this year.
