NEWS POLICE PODCAST A sneak peek into the next episodes
The second and third episodes of POLICE: The podcast are currently in the final phase of post-production editing and will be released soon. You can listen to our podcasts by visiting www.
polfed.org/news/podcast. In the second episode, former PFEW National Board member Dave Bamber talks about what industrial rights mean for serving police officers as Crown Servants. He takes you through the Police Regulations and what they say about officers’ employment. In the third episode, PFEW National Chair Steve Hartshorn conducts a candid discussion on the Employment Tribunal’s judgment issued on 6 June 2023 in the Police Pensions Challenge case. Mr Hartshorn delves into the history of
police-government relations, the agreement between police and government in 1919, which added a new dimension to the UK’s policing, and takes you through the imminent next steps following the judgment including the remedy hearing and the initiatives taken by the Federation based on the tribunal’s observations and findings.
POLICE: The podcast
aims to cover a wide range of policing topics and you will hear from policing experts, wellbeing experts and police officers telling their stories. We are seeking officers and staff to feature on future episodes.

THIN BLUE LINE RADIO:
REMEMBERING THE FALLEN A new podcast remembering officers who have lost their lives on duty has been launched
The Podcast is hosted by ‘JP’, a Sergeant with Merseyside Police who has recently retold stories of PC Andrew Harper and PC Nicola Hughes who were killed alongside their colleague PC Fiona Bone. Speaking to POLICE, JP said: “The podcast is built around the principle of ‘always remembered, never forgotten’ and I am extremely humbled by having the opportunity to talk with the families and friends of those who have lost their lives in service. Regardless of time or distance, we all serve as part of one police family. We all bleed blue.”
Asked why he thinks the podcast is important when it comes
to memorialising officers, especially for newer and younger officers, JP said: “We feel podcasts allow us to reach many colleagues who may not be familiar with some of the events that we highlight and often the programme features audio interviews with family members or friends who have had to deal with the most difficult of events first hand. It is incredibly powerful listening to what they have to say.” Future editions of the Thin Blue Line Radio Podcast will include covering the 40-year anniversary of PC Yvonne Fletcher’s and a special edition called ‘Through the decades’.
