OWN THE FESTIVE SEASON

As we approach the festive season, I believe we’re entering one of the biggest marketing opportunities of the year for taxi companies across the UK. From Christmas markets and office parties to festive shopping trips, family gatherings, nights out with friends and New Year’s Eve celebrations, November and December are packed with occasions when people need reliable transport.
And let’s not forget, many of these occasions involve a few festive drinks! For taxi operators, this presents a fantastic opportunity to increase bookings, attract new customers and remind local people why booking a taxi is the sensible choice.
But here’s my question: are you actively marketing your taxi company around these events, or are you simply waiting for the bookings to arrive?
Don’t drink and drive – let us get you home
One of the simplest and most effective marketing messages at Christmas is also one of the most important. If you’re going out celebrating, leave the car at home. Taxi companies have a brilliant opportunity to promote responsible travel through their marketing. Messages such as “Enjoy the Party, We’ll Get You Home”, “Your Christmas Night Out Starts and Ends With Us” or “Don’t Drink and Drive - Book a Taxi Instead” are simple, relevant and easy for customers to understand.
These messages work particularly well on social media, especially when accompanied by eye-catching festive graphics, photography and short videos.
Get your social media working harder
During the festive season, your Facebook, Instagram and TikTok pages should be full of relevant local content. Promote Christmas markets, local events, pantomimes, concerts, festive shopping destinations and popular venues. Create posts reminding people to book their transport for Christmas parties and New Year’s Eve. You could even run competitions offering free taxi journeys or festive giveaways to encourage engagement and increase your local following.

My advice is to make your content fun, seasonal and relevant to your community. Don’t just post pictures of taxis. Show people enjoying Christmas and remind them that your company can get them there and home safely.
Special offers can encourage more bookings
Christmas is also a great time to introduce targeted promotions. Consider offering discounted return journeys, group booking incentives, promotional codes for first-time app users or special deals with local restaurants and entertainment venues.
Corporate Christmas parties are another opportunity. Why not contact local businesses and offer to help organise safe transport home for their staff? A simple partnership could generate multiple bookings in one evening and potentially lead to regular corporate work throughout the year.
Don’t forget traditional marketing
While digital marketing is incredibly important, traditional printed marketing still has its place. Well- designed festive flyers distributed through pubs, restaurants, hotels, shopping centres and local businesses can put your taxi company’s details directly in front of potential customers. Include a QR code linking straight to your booking app or website, making it easy for people to book when they need you.
Start marketing before the festivities begin
The biggest mistake is leaving everything until December. People start organising Christmas parties, family gatherings and festive outings weeks in advance. Your marketing needs to be reaching them while they’re making those plans.
At Hollogram, we always encourage taxi companies to think ahead, plan their campaigns and create content that connects with their local audience. Christmas isn’t just about generating extra bookings over a few busy weekends. It’s also an opportunity to introduce your business to new customers who could continue using your services throughout the following year.
So this festive season, don’t just wait for the phone to ring. Get your marketing working, support your local community and make sure your taxi firm is the one people remember when it’s time to head home. After all, your customers should be enjoying the festivities, not worrying about how they’re getting home.
