OF OUR INDUSTRY

per month with this initiative. If you know any females who would like to earn a good rate of pay, have all their training and licensing paid for, have the benefits of working for a company that supports and cares, then please tell them to either register on our website: www.aaataxis.com by visiting the home page and clicking on: ‘Become a Driver in a Month Course’. Laura or her team will be in touch.

saying it is our people on the ‘coalface’ that have made AAA the success it is today.

As the saying goes: it is the ‘teamwork that makes the dream work’, and I could not write this article without mentioning them. I am surrounded by a strong team of staff of whom I am very proud: Finance Manager, Natalie; Contracts Manager, Elyssia; Accounts Manager, Harriet; Despatch Manager, Catherine; Driver Department Manager, Laura and Quality Standards Manager, Lisa.

There was never a plan to create a female dominated environment in the management team, however my enthusiasm for the job, I believe, has rubbed off on other women and our flexible approach to working arrange- ments has made it possible for many, who like me, started on part time hours to progress to senior management roles. I hope to be able to continue to encourage more women in the industry. Most importantly, I must show my appreciation for our drivers (majority male, as is common) who have always treated me with esteem. It is their support and respect shown, that helps our team thrive and is one of the reasons I would encourage more women to join the industry.

To this end AAA is introducing a new campaign to train and license female drivers free of charge to be employed by us. They will carry out home to school transport runs and other account work, in addition to this, street work is available, should they wish. We currently run a monthly driver training school which we hope to increase to two

JANUARY 2022

Having enjoyed my career to date within the industry and being appreciative of all the support and respect I have received; I want to continue to ensure that our drivers know how valuable they are in the whole process. During 2022, AAA are looking for lots of ways to do this. Our main initiative will be raising awareness of Prostate Cancer. It is now the most diagnosed cancer in the UK and 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.

Through a corporate partnership with Prostate Cancer UK and their ‘Men United’ campaign we hope to raise funds to support the charity and ensure drivers in the taxi industry are informed of all the facts. Prostate Cancer UK have agreed to provide virtual awareness talks with drivers in mind. Additionally, they have provided a link to use as a ‘risk checker’ tool: https://prostatecanceruk.org/risk-checker

AAA will be organising events throughout the year, which the taxi industry will be invited to attend and support – further details to follow. We have set up a just giving page for all funds raised to be donated to: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/aaataxis sponsorsprostatecanceruk2022.

So coming back to where I started…. At an Awards night in Manchester – we won Taxi Company of the Year 2021 (less than 300 cars). All our hard work has been worth it! Going forward we have one word for the industry: COLLABORATE. We all need to work together, support each other regardless of despatch provider, business model, hackney or private hire, operator or driver, whoever you are. It is the only way.

It will be the AAA way! We hope to work with you in 2022!
