THIS IS NOW LIFE AND DEATH

“Mr B had established a relationship with a teenage boy and his sister, taken them back to a bed sit flat that was rented by private hire drivers, where they claim they were sexually assaulted whilst they were sleeping”

No action was taken by police in relation to these matters.

Now hang on…. Mr A picked up a druggie, which could in different scenario been a bus or a train driver. How is it anything to do with Mr A?

Mr B had a teenage son and daughter, had separated from his wife, and had a bedsit. He hugged his children to sleep. So what if friends called around! Did anyone check the tenancy agreement to verify their allegation that it was rented by a bunch of private hire drivers? I suspect not.

Whoever thought up such a dangerous idea and then posted those examples in such a way, with no emphasis on the fact that there had been ZERO police action taken, which would suggest that nothing untoward had happened, has a very warped imagination to start with. The fact that those very creative examples were published for all to see; is potentially inciting violence.

Then we wonder why drivers are being attacked and killed? POLICE

In all honesty, a lot of officers out there are amazing, they truly are, but lack of police support is a nationwide issue, and one which must be changed!

We have heard horror stories of drivers making reports, and the police do not turn up at all. We have heard of officers saying: “it’s part of the job, you had better get used to it” or “it is a civil matter, nothing we can do”.

The police force in general, from top level to operation centre staff need to start to take these matters seriously and treat it the same as you would if it was one of your own that had been attacked. Remember, taxi and private hire drivers are extremely vulnerable, potentially on their own, under attack from up to eight passengers or more, and where are you? “Too busy”.

We’ve seen drivers attacked, robbed, abused, stabbed, and killed across the UK: London, Glasgow, Rochdale, Newcas- tle, Leeds, Manchester, Rossendale, Bury, Bradford, every town, every city, every week; in fact, more like every day!

You know we make your job so much easier during the night-time when we take the drunks home; without us, your night shifts would be hectic - so please help us, support us, protect us!

DRIVERS

You are not getting off scot free either I’m afraid. Stop brushing things off and dismissing the incidents! GET THEM ALL REPORTED!

You see, when you brush it off as: “it’s only £5” or “the police won’t come” or “it didn’t hurt”, the next driver might not be so lucky.

But worse than that, by not reporting incidents, there’s no record it ever happened, so the crime statistics go down and the police budgets get cut! This means that there are less police available, and we are at a chicken and egg situation.

The lack of police available is just as much your fault for not reporting issues. Get everything reported, even if they’re not going to attend - YOU MUST GET AN INCIDENT LOG REFERENCE NUMBER!
