FACE MASK GIVEAWAY: SOUTHAMPTON FIRM PROMOTES “STAY SAFE” IN A BIG WAY
When it comes to protection of both their drivers and customers, NPHTA member Radio Taxis Southampton has gone the extra mile for certain. At the start of the lock- down they initially ordered 500 brand- ed washable, re- usable face masks to help protect their drivers, and make their customers feel safer when travel- ling in their vehicles. According to Busi- ness Development Assistant Tony Attrill, they had some surplus masks so decided to run a customer promotion over the May Bank Holiday weekend, offering a free mask
to customers when they entered their booking reference and address details through Radio Taxis’ website. Tony told PHTM: “We had a really positive response to the promotion, and were contacted by customers who missed out on the offer but really wanted one - so we decided to extend the offer and open it up to all customers. The initiative has been really well received and the feedback from cus- tomers has been positive; to date we have handed out over 2,400 branded face masks.” The company step-

SEPARATION SAFETY SCREENS NOW ALLOWED IN CARDIFF
Safety screens have been approved for use in taxis and pri- vate hire vehicles s in Cardiff. This result follows months of corre- spondence and reports being sub- mitted by Unite the Union, supported by the NPHTA to Cardiff City Council and local MPs. In a gruelling four- hour licensing Com- mittee meeting, pre- sentations were made by NPHTA board members Lee Ward and Steven Toy,

Thank you to the licensing committee at Cardiff City Coun- cil who were largely supportive of the trade taking a com- mon sense and pragmatic approach. Congratulations and well done to all those who repre- sented the trade at the meeting.
posted a selfie on Radio Taxis’ Face- book wearing the mask. A weekly draw resulted in five lucky customers winning £50 of taxi
credit with the com- pany; one of those winners will be even luckier in a few days when their name will be drawn out to win either an adult elec- tric scooter, an LG 43” smart TV or a laptop. Customer feedback to the whole initia- tive says it all: “Well done guys; that’s a fantastic thing to do. Great way to keep your drivers and cus- tomers safe, and a little deserved pub- licity.” I used your taxis just after travel restric- tions were relaxed and the guy was amazing! He’d paid for a plastic screen between front and
back seats, was wearing a mask, and asked me not to take offence but when I got out he’d be wip- ing everything down with antibac wipes. He is a total credit to you. I so rarely need a taxi but when I do you guys have never let us down. It’s actually quicker to get a taxi from you to take my asthmat- ic daughter to hospital if she gets ill, than calling and waiting on an ambu- lance!” There’s more: Radio Taxis has also joined up with the national- ly fast-growing initiative, Safe Taxi Charter, which will give customers fur- ther confidence:-
HYNDBURN’S TAXIS TAKE ON NEW LOOK TO HELP KEEP DRIVERS SAFE
Hyndburn taxi and private hire drivers are ensuring their safety as well as that of their cus- tomers by installing protective screens in their vehicles. Hyndburn council’s licensing depart- ment is also asking customers to wear a face covering when travelling as drivers are within their rights to refuse to carry a customer who will not wear one. Councillor Joyce Plummer, Cabinet Member for Licens- ing, said: “Taxi and private hire drivers have been working
throughout the pan- demic to ensure that all of our key work- ers can get to and from work, often at unsociable hours when other public transport would not
be available. On behalf of the council I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of them for their tire- less efforts working in a very frontline role.”
