FREE CAB TRAVEL FOR NHS THANKS TO GOFUNDME CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED BY MINICABIT


With public trans- port services limited over lockdown, Brit- ain’s licensed inde- pendent taxi oper- ators were keen to “do their bit” to help key workers with their travel to and from work. minicabit, the coun- try’s largest minicab comparison web- site, partnered with leading City Livery charity, the Fish- mongers’ Company Charitable Trust, to fund free trips for NHS staff to and from their hospitals across the UK, in cities and towns of varying size. To support the ini- tiative, a GoFundMe


fundraising cam- paign where the public could also donate was set up, quickly surpassing its initial fundraising target and raising over a quarter of a million pounds in donations. Having piloted in London, over 3,200 NHS staff are now registered for the


service, with cab trips taken every day across the coun- try, from Bourne- mouth to Dundee and from Cam- bridge to Liverpool. Amer Hasan, found- er and CEO of minicabit explained: “This campaign has brought out the best in everyone. The public has been


generous with their donations and our cab operators and drivers stepped up with a true Dunkirk spirit. “The experience of taking staff through- out the pandemic helped prepare our platform and our cab operator part- ners to comply with Covid guidelines.


Hence why we’ve also joined the Safe Taxi & Private Hire charter. “minicabit is seeing a return of customer demand, especially outside London (as customers avoid public transport) and for Gatwick and Stansted airports as short haul airlines resume flights. Over 40 cab operators have signed up to its platform in the last month alone as a means to get more work, with minicabit on the lookout for more operators UK wide. “Above all, it’s been heartening to hear from our NHS


heroes how this has been a ‘godsend’ at this stressful time… their words!” Racquel, an NHS key worker, was compli- mentary of the benefits the service had brought. “It is greatly appreciated,” she said. “The cab drivers were very professional and on time and they chose the best route, which made my journey very relaxing and enjoyable.
