HOW ABOUT #theneglectedindustry?

for employees only, the SEISS was only 80% of surplus funds (net profits after tax for self-employed). YOU FAILED!

You were asked for funding to support the move to electric vehicles (by Transport for Greater Manchester and others). You said No, but you can have a few million for some plug sockets for the general public to use, but the drivers can fend for themselves. Go out and buy a £58,000 electric taxi; you might get a £1,000 grant. YOU FAILED!

Elderly and infirm, housebound members of the public rely on our door to door service to get them to and from the buses, and yet our industry has been kicked into the long grass and shown that we don’t matter.

Buses: by your own admission at the Transport Select Com- mittee, over £4 billion has been allocated to building and supplying electric and hydrogen buses.

The message is very clear: This industry is being eroded through neglect, lack of guidance and lack of support. Its demise would be catastrophic.

THE RESULT WOULD BE:

• No services to take special needs and Social Services children to and from school

• No one to provide continuity and onward transport from airports, bus stations and railway stations

• No one to clear the city/town centres of hundreds of thousands of passengers, mostly the worse for wear, late at night when there is no other form of transport available

• No one to act as the very “eyes and ears” of the commu- nity - as has so often been the case over the years - to protect the public in a way no other transport provider can ever do, which would be further enhanced with in-vehicle CCTV

• No one continuing to risk their own health and safety to provide support and backup to NHS workers, other key workers, elderly and other self-isolating people, as the dreaded Covid virus lingers - and of course, against the aggressive drunks

There’s only one answer: we are #theforgottenindustry

We’re fighting for survival out here; we implore the Government to get behind the taxi and PH industry as it should, and offer recognition, guidance and financial support.
