THE BERNIE THE
OPEN WOE TURNS TO OLYMPIC JOY
BOOK COLUMN GOLF: THE US PGA
Well we took rather a batteringat the Open with my main fancy and my second pick both struggling around the cut mark but my dark horse, Nicholas Colsaerts did finish just in the money (joint seventh) at a respectable 100/1. However as at least four other golfers also finished joint seventh, the profit was seri- ously compromised. Better luck in the US PGA (see below). On the plus side I refer my readers to February’s column of Bernie the Book.
Golf’s last major of the year is the US PGA which takes place in mid August. Unlike the other majors where a large proportion of the field is made up of non-American golfers, this major is aimed at the American pro and conditions will be set up to favour the home side. It is very rare for a non-American to win this event and my three against the field, because of their at- tributes of length, accuracy and most important of all birdie blitzing are: DUSTIN JOHNSON (pictured right) widely available at 33/1 JASON DUFNER again at 33/1 and finally HUNTER MAHAN (below) at 40/1
All three should be teeing it up at Med- ina for the Ryder Cup in September as part of Love’s twelve.
STAKING PLAN Dustin Johnson £20 win at 33/1 Jason Dufner £15 win at 33/1 Hunter Mahan £15 e/w at 40/1
HORSE RACING From
February’s column
For those brave enough to follow my staking plan, you can now collect your £350 after Sir Chris Hoy was given the honour of carrying the Standard of Team GB at the opening ceremony. We now await China winning the most medals as advertised in February’s column.
FOOTY TIPSTER COMPETITION
After much soul searching there is no Footy Tipster Competi- tion this year. I know many of you look forward to seeing how your fancies are performing in relation to others, but after four successful years a change is as good as a rest. Look out for other competitions which will be running over the next few months.
FOOTBALL: 2012 DOMESTIC
On that topic in last month’s column I highlighted the chances of Blackburn Rovers winning the Championship at a fantastic price of 16/1. That price has now contracted as has my tip for Division One (Swindon Town at 10/1) and Fleetwood Town for Division Two currently at 7/1. I suggest the following:
STAKING PLAN Blackburn Rovers £40 win at 12/1 Swindon Town £30 win at 10/1 Fleetwood Town £30 win at 7/1 Plus £5 win doubles and treble (£20)

It’s August so it must be the Ebor meeting at York. This star studded fixture straddles Glorious Goodwood and Doncaster’s St Leger meeting and consequently many of the top trainers send their stable stars to contest the Group 1’s and the presti- gious handicaps. Frankel is being directed at the Juddmonte, Team Ballydoyle are sending representatives for the Great Voltigeur, the Nunthorpe and the Musidora, but more impor- tant than all of these is the one mile six furlong Ebor Handicap. Anyone witnessing SIMEON’s destruction of his field in two competitive Royal Ascot races will have no doubts (like myself) of his chances in lifting the Ebor. And his shrewd trainer Tony Martin (pictured right) is no stranger to organising coups of staggering proportions. Take the 12/1 now, available at Corals, Stan James or Bet Fred before the price evaporates.
AMERICAN FOOTBALL
Gridiron returns at the end of the month/early September and in next month’s issue I will detail fully who I fancy for next year’s Superbowl. But for this issue and because we need to get our Divisional bets down early, see my staking plan for my Heinz 57

THE OLYMPICS
Yes, I know it’s in the summer and after Royal Ascot but we can- not let this bit of information go unpunished. So our quest is now to win £5000 for the Olympics. So fill your boots on....WHO WILL BE GREAT BRITAIN’S FLAG BEARER AT THE OPENING CEREMONY? Well let’s see. The person needs to be internationally recognised, an Olympian, synonymous with suc- cess and probably physically strong as it’s a very big stick! There really is only one contender and at the 7/4 being currently of- fered by BET3365 I suggest a maximum wager (well a maxi- mum wager for this column as I would not advocate a stake above £200) on SIR CHRIS HOY. There is one other unbelievable Olympian bet and that is on CHINA winning the most Olympic medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze) following on from the same happening in Beijing in 2008. Again BET365 are betting on the eventuality and the top price of 10/11 has to be taken in what is essentially a two-horse race between them and America. I will take all bets on the flag bearer being Boris Johnson!
STAKING PLAN Sir Chris Hoy £200 win at 7/4 China £110 win at 10/11
