again in England after what seems like a three week break. I always like to place down an ante-post combo on the four divisions. This year I have ig- nored the Premiership for betting purposes as the re- spective odds on the big five cannot merit inclusion. How- ever I do believe that Liver- pool have signed well, will have a good season and have a great manager capable of bringing out the best in his squad and therefore I would advocate a wager on Liverpool on handicap (all firms are betting on this market). A price of 16/1 makes great appeal. JUST ASK YOUR BOOKIE FOR A PRICE ON THE RACING POST FOOTBALL HANDICAP. On to the championship and my primary pick are WEST HAM UNITED (universally available at 9/2). With Big Sam in the hot seat and on a recovery mission after his Newcastle debacle, in addition to the likelihood of him retaining a fair proportion of his Premiership squad I think the Hammers will win the league in a cake-walk. My second pick is last year’s play-off final los- ers READING who are top priced 16/1. There are two ways you can go from the heartbreak of losing at Wembley but the man- ner in which they so nearly came back from the dead against Swansea leads me to believe that they will rellish the opportu- nity of achieving promotion directly this year. In Division One the appointment of Phil Brown at PRESTONcan only be a good thing and the manner of Preston’s finish to last season holds them in great hope for this campaign. The divi- sion looks very open with no outstanding team and I believe the 7/1 on offer represents fair value. My second pick is CHARL- TON ATHLETIC at a top price of 8/1. They have under-achieved in the last couple of seasons but are a big club in this division with good support and I feel a return to the Championship is overdue.
Finally in Division Two, can Crawley achieve two promotions in two years with their financial clout? The 3/1 price on offer is derisory and I would much rather pick three big price alternates to carry my hopes. Combined, their price equates to some- where near 10/1 and individually they are as follows; SOUTHEND UTD 25/1; TORQUAY UTD 33/1; and DAGENHAM AND REDBRIDGE 33/1. The trixie pays a best return of £5200 (Treble) for a £1 stake and worst ways pays a return of £1144 for a £1 stake.
NEXT MONTH...
Question? Which legendary tipster has picked the Superbowl winner over the last three years? Not in January at the start of the play-offs, not in December at the conclusion of the regular season, not even in November but actually before a funny shaped ball has been kicked in August. Last year The Packers sent the bookmakers packing at 16/1, two years ago New Or- leans were the confident pick at a whopping 20/1 and three years ago The Steelers obliged at pre-season 12/1. Answer - Bernie the Book!! Read my tips next month.
