WHITBY PARKING FIRM AXED AFTER COMPLAINTS


Controversial parking company LDK has been given the boot following a Whitby Gazette campaign to oust them from Whitby station car park. Northern Rail, which manages Whitby sta- tion, has cancelled LDK’s contract follow- ing a series of complaints by car park users who unfairly received parking tick- ets.


Whitby taxi driver John Tyreman received a parking ticket after helping a disabled fare from his taxi into the Cooperative super- market. When he returned, he found an LDK parking attendant issuing a ticket.


Although his appeal


was initially rejected, LDK decided to rescind the ticket after the Whitby Gazette was able to prove the company’s claims about the incident were false.


On hearing of LDK’s dismissal, Mr Tyre- man told the Gazette: “They were so unfair to so many people. “I just thought they took things to the extreme and didn’t show any common sense. I do feel that Whitby will be better off without them and I haven’t got a great deal of sympathy for them. They truly deserve what they got.”


A spokesperson for Northern Rail said: “We are a member of


the British Parking Association so we fol- low their guidance and guidelines.


“LDK are no longer managing the car park for us at Whitby. “We operate around 400 stations across the north and have been doing a lot of work over the last year to try and bring some consistency by getting all the car parks under one umbrella.”


Northern Rail expect to now take responsi- bility for the managing of the car park. Mmm...YES! Victory against the monster parking companies! Any more good news on this front? You know where to get in touch. - Ed.


ROMFORD TAXI FIRM GETS 15 TICKETS IN TWO WEEKS


A Gidea Park taxi firm said its job had been made “impossible” after a council camera car gave it 15 parking fines in two weeks. Kilo Cars Ltd, in Sta- tion Road, Gidea Park, said it was being tar- geted by the council and had received unfair parking fines while its drivers are doing their job.


The council said it is only fining drivers obstructing the road and parking on zigzag lines, or in the bus stop. The firm said the Havering Council CCTV Smart car has been parking opposite the taxi office, next to Gidea Park station, every day for the past three weeks from 7am


to 8.30am.


The car has been monitoring the road after requests from the police and TfL about road obstructions. Gary Burgess, co- owner of the firm, told the Romford Record- er: “We are just trying to do our job, but they are making it impossi- ble. We can’t drop customers off 500 yards from the station. There is nowhere clos- er that we could do it.” His partner,

Mcllquham, said he felt they were being targeted.


He said: “In two weeks my drivers have received 15 fines. The taxi drivers can’t afford to pay.” He had received five fines


which he will be appealing against. A TfL spokesman said buses had problems with cars in the bus stop opposite the sta- tion and on the yellow lines nearby.


He added: “Recently, as a result of this inconsiderate parking, a bus passenger in a wheelchair had to dis- embark at the next available stop because the bus was unable to deploy its ramp at the Gidea Park stop.” Cllr Barry Tebbutt, cab- inet member for environment, said: “We have been clamping down on illegal parking outside Gidea Park Station and have the support of the police and bus drivers.”
