CABBIE WINS £1,500 OFF HIS PREMIUM WITH THE TAXI INSURER AT PHTM EXPO

It’s often said that you’ve got to be in it to win it, and that maxim proved particularly true for Shabbir Master at last year’s PHTM EXPO.
The self-employed black cab driver from Bradford has been diligently attending the industry event for the past eight years, but it was only in 2024 that he finally decided to enter The Taxi Insurer’s annual prize draw offering one lucky winner £1,500 off their insurance renewal premium.
“You never think you’re going to win,” explains Shabbir, “but I just thought to myself: ‘Let’s put it in.’ I’ve never won anything in my life, so when I got the call to say that I’d won I didn’t believe it. You couldn’t make it up.”
Why attend the Expo?
Aside from the chance to be a prize draw winner, there are three main reasons for Shabbir’s faithful attendance at the Expo over the years:

He feels that the importance of the last of those factors can sometimes be underestimated.
“I remember one year meeting the owner of one of the biggest private hire companies in Newcastle at the show, who mentioned that he could have a job for me. A few months after the Expo, he called me to say that customers of his who were supposed to fly back to Newcastle Airport had been diverted to Leeds and Bradford due to bad weather. He asked me to pick them up and take them back to Newcastle, and said he’d settle up with me later.
“I made sure those customers got home safely. They were happy, the taxi company owner was happy and so was I. Networking at the Expo can definitely pay off.”

Winning the prize draw has had a doubly positive impact for Shabbir, enriching both his professional and personal life. When his taxi insurance came up for renewal, the £1,500 he’d saved allowed him to add breakdown cover and legal expenses to his new policy, taking his total premium for the year to less than £100.
“The customer service The Taxi Insurer gave me was brilliant,” he remembers. “They helped me out right the way through.”
With his insurance taken care of for another year, and a sizeable amount of money burning a hole in his pocket, what did Shabbir decide to do with his winnings.
“Since the Expo, I've been on holiday to India to see my family. It was a last-minute decision. I managed to fit in three days in Dubai as well.”
And will he be entering this year’s prize draw? “I’ll be entering every prize draw that I can!”
