Rewired offers delegates a brilliant opportunity to take a deeper look at the technological and digital innovations that are increasingly providing solutions but also significant challenges to the profession. – Gary Horrocks

CILIP’s tech-focused conference returns this year with an online offering designed to delve into the latest innovations in the library and information professional world. This year’s programme is being co-created with CILIP’s UKeiG group, and Rob Green talks to Gary Horrocks about what’s planned.

REWIRED is set for its third iteration as it moves to become an online event when It returns in November of this year. The con- ference is a unique opportunity in the CILIP calendar to spend time focused entirely on technology, innovation and services that impact on information, knowledge and libraries.

With the shift to online, the conference is set to become more accessible and delegates will be able to revisit sessions and catch up with ones they may have missed on the day. Gary Horrocks, UkeiG’s Business Co-ordinator, is among those helping to create this year’s programme and he says that he has partly approached it using his own experience as a delegate in previous years. “On behalf of the UK e-information Group (UKeiG) I attended and published reports on both Rewired events in 2023 and 2024,” he says. “Rewired offers delegates a brilliant opportunity to take a deeper look at the technological and digital innovations that are increasingly providing solutions but also significant challenges to the profession. The pre- dominating theme from both events was that the LIS community is not at the forefront of fundamental paradigm changing developments and needs proac- tively to set the agenda for the future, not respond to it.”

With that in mind, UKeiG’s tech know-how is 44 INFORMATION PROFESSIONAL www.librariesrewired.org.uk

being leveraged to shape a programme that will give delegates new insights and tools to help them navi- gate and lead for their institutions. Gary says: “Over the years UKeiG has showcased and celebrated digital knowledge and expertise, championing inno- vation in and the effective exploitation of e-informa- tion resources, tools, techniques and technologies in all sectors of the library, information and knowledge profession. Our popular online CPD programme embraces AI, digital literacy, effective information retrieval and search technologies, social media, data curation and management and research support, for example. We like to stay one step ahead of the game and are developing exciting new courses for later this year and next. Some of that forward-thinking is being translated into this year’s Rewired pro- gramme.”

As with previous Rewired events, Artificial Intelligence will be high on the agenda. From the
