THIS year’s CILIP Cymru Wales Conference marks a return to an in-person event for the first time since 2019, offering a welcome chance to re-connect and build relationships with colleagues.
And the theme for 2024 picks up on that feeling of renewal, as library services move beyond the crisis of Covid and look ahead to a brighter future under the banner Empower, Edu- cate, Evolve; Library and information professionals leading the way forward.
The conference will look at how services in all sectors can harness the knowledge and expertise of library and informa- tion professionals as they look to connect with communities and users. Key to that is ensuring information professionals have the skills and understanding about how their roles can adapt and evolve to meet new and emerging needs, and CILIP Cymru Wales Conference 2024 will deliver a range of sessions and opportunities for delegates at all stages of their careers. CILIP Cymru Wales Chair Jamie Finch said: “We will be exploring and celebrating the work of library and information professionals in leading the way and influencing through the delivery of quality services. Whether you are a new pro- fessional or a manager/leader there will be something for everyone. Learn, discuss and be empowered through keynote speakers, panels sessions and learning sessions. There will be a trade exhibition and plenty of opportunity to network and share knowledge with like-minded colleagues.” Keynote speaker David McMenemy, Senior Lecturer in
Information Studies and creator of the REVEAL project for CILIP Scotland, will be provid- ing an overview of the project and looking at how libraries can develop their own ethical stance to advocacy. REVEAL (Rein- forcing Ethics and Values for Effective Advocacy in Libraries) has been created to give librar- ies the tools and knowledge to deliver effective advocacy, framed by the ethical values of librarianship. The aim it to ensure the message is not just about how library services are delivered, but also why ethics are such an important part of delivery. REVEAL includes a toolkit and delegates can download and access it for free at
