‘‘ S Festival

Our Festival of Pride and Knowledge programme included an event with Lucy Clark. As a founder of, and presenter on Trans Radio UK, Lucy talked about how the radio station came about, and its value as both a community space and an information source for the trans community. Lucy also spoke about her own personal experiences as a trans woman, and other projects and work she is involved in, including her role as a Football Association referee.

We hosted an event with Matt Akersten (he/him), who was part of the team delivering Sydney WorldPride 2023, and prior to that involved in communications and community liaison for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival. For our event Matt, with his experience in delivering diversity and inclusion training, shared a whole range of ideas around how to organise events and make them visibly inclusive and welcoming for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual and queer communities.

Network members who weren’t able to attend these events will be able to watch recordings of them. Details can be found in our next newsletter coming out in December.

We also had our first informal, face- October-November 2023

UMMER 2023 saw CILIP LGBTQ+ Network run its third Festival of Pride and Knowledge. We had fewer events this year,

but it was no less exciting. It was great to be able to share experiences of LGBTQ+ people with our Network and discover ways to help develop library, knowledge and information (LKI) services to support both their users and LGBTQIA+ people who work within those services.

It was amazing to meet network members in person again and we’re hoping to do much more of this in 2024.

to-face meetup since our launch in February 2020, when members of the Network came together in Liverpool in July to join the Pride March there. It was amazing to meet network members in person again and we’re hoping to do much more of this in 2024.

Collaboration

Over the coming year we would like to run more events relevant to LGBTQIA+ LKI workers and our allies. We are keen to work collaboratively with other groups to achieve this. For example, we worked with CILIP Scotland; Scottish Students New Professionals Network; CILIP Wales; and CILIP Yorkshire & Humberside to organise our 2021 Festival of Pride and Knowledge. If you would like to talk to us about running a joint event (online or in-person), or if you have any other ideas about collaborating with us please get in touch. We can be contacted via: cilip.lgbtqnetwork@cilip.org.uk Continuing the theme of collaborating with others, we are also continuing to work with the UK Web Archive and British Library on the LGBTQ+ Lives Online project. This aims to curate web sites and online presence of UK LGBTQIA+ individuals, communities and organisations, to ensure that this valuable social history of the UK is kept. The LGBTQ+ Lives Online collection can be found at www.webarchive.org.uk/en/ ukwa/collection/1151.

You can read more about the project on the UK Web Archive blog at https:// blogs.bl.uk/webarchive/lgbtq. Information about how to nominate sites for inclusion in the collection can also be found there.

Just by the fact that you’re reading this piece, you’ll know that we also contribute articles focused on LGBTQIA+ issues relevant to LKI workers to CILIP’s Information

Professional magazine. We are looking for contributors to our quarterly column – this is a paid opportunity. So, if you have an idea for an article with an LGBTQ+ LKI theme please do get in touch via email with your proposal.
