CILIP LGBTQ+ Network Committee – opportunities to get involved!
A
RE you looking to develop your skills? Do you have a passion for marketing and developing brands?
Or do you prefer to work with numbers?
If you identify as LGBTQ+ or Queer, then the LGBTQ+ Network Committee has some exciting opportunities for you! We are looking to recruit into several committee roles, including secretary, treasurer and communications and marketing co-ordinator.
What is the CILIP LGBTQ+ Committee and what does it do?
The LGBTQ+ Network Committee is composed of library and information professionals who identify as LGBTQ+. It was formed in October 2020 to take forward and develop the work of the CILIP LGBTQ+ Network Steering Group. The network aims to provide guidance, support, and a safe space to share knowledge and experiences for library, information and knowledge workers who identify as LGBTQ+. Essentially, the committee manages CILIP’s LGBTQ+ Network by:
l Ensuring effective governance and management including finance;
l Developing and implementing a three- year business plan supporting CILIP’s Changing Lives, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion aims and objectives, and producing an annual report;
l Recruiting, engaging with and working to empower LGBTQ+ Network members;
l Ensuring up-to-date information about the network is available on the CILIP website;
l Producing regular communications (via newsletter, e-bulletin, web, social media, Information Professional journal);
l Delivering a programme of training and events;
40 INFORMATION PROFESSIONAL
l Liaising and collaborating with CILIP, CILIPS, CILIP Ireland, CILIP Cymru Wales, CILIP Regional Member Networks, Special Interest Groups and the other diversity networks;
l Linking and collaborating with others on shared projects;
l Contributing to policy development where appropriate.
The network relies on the incredible contribution of committee members – people who give up a few hours of their spare time each month.
How will I benefit from being on the Committee?
As an appointed representative you will be championing LGBTQ+ equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring LGBTQ+ voices are heard and LGBTQ+ members are visible, engaged and active. This is by far the greatest reward!
Volunteering as a committee member is also a great way to get involved in the wider work of CILIP and expand your awareness of the wider profession. Being part of the committee is an excellent CPD opportunity – a sure way to enrich your experience. If you’re undertaking Professional Registration, the work you will undertake will really enhance your portfolio.
Given the committee’s and network’s aims and remit, there will be lots of opportunities and scope to develop your skills, knowledge, and experience in areas such as: management, communications, web and social media, networking, engaging others, recruitment, designing and running online events, training, research, campaigning, policy, advocacy, and presentation skills. You will learn to liaise and work collaboratively and in partnership with a wider range of organisations. This can all be linked to the PKSB.
You will be joining a supportive, committed, enthusiastic and above all else, a fun team.
