Welcome to the October News Bulletin from IIMS. What a month just gone September proved to be. To say the past few weeks have been full on, eventful and memorable for several reasons would be something of an understatement. Let me explain further.

On the last day of August, the IIMS head office team headed to nearby Fort Purbrook, one of a series of imposing forts built for the defence of Portsmouth against landward attacks in the 1860s and later known as Palmerston’s Follies as they never saw any action! The purpose of our visit for half a day was to brainstorm and conduct a SWOT (Strengths:Weaknesses:Opportunities:Threats) analysis. The team split into four working groups and each considered all four of the SWOT components. My thanks to my colleagues for their immense efforts. From this exercise came a list under each of the categories. This was presented to the IIMS Management Board at our meeting in early September and was well received by those who attended. The purpose of this exercise is to help shape the future strategy and path ahead for the Institute over the coming years using an inclusive forum. It will surprise no-one reading this column to know that AI (Artificial Intelligence) was the subject of much discussion and we debated how new technology can be utilized further to keep IIMS ahead of the competition in how it efficiently delivers its services and benefits to members.
