tephanie Eynon is BSI’s Standards- Makers Development & Engagement Manager. She believes that, over time, ensuring that all standards are inherently inclusive from the
outset will deliver an ‘Inclusive as Standard’ environment. “Clearly some standards such as BS 76005
on diversity and inclusion are needed and make a valuable contribution to advancing equality and inclusiveness. But if those principles were to be embedded into all
standards from the start, maybe there would be no need for separate, additional standards,” she said.
Stephanie is responsible for managing
the diversity and inclusion of standards- makers, the people who volunteer their time and expertise to develop standards. By ensuring the diversity of the experts coming together to make a standard, the idea is that the standards will refl ect views right across society, and all stakeholders. “Having different people in the room
will raise questions a homogenous group might not raise and that will impact on a standard’s development,” she said. “We welcome everyone who represents a stakeholder and who has the relevant knowledge, experience and expertise to get involved in standards making. However, we recognise that we have plenty of scope for increasing the diversity of our standards- makers community and the inclusiveness of the standards development environment and process.”
