At Dr. Fant’s first orientation in Fall 2017, he led a special event for incoming freshman that draws upon NGU’s legacy as a light in the “Dark Corner” of the Upstate: the candle-lighting ceremony. As each member of NGU’s Class of 2021 held up a candle, they united, prayed, and committed together to be a light for Christ. “God, help us to be a light on top of this hill — a light that shines so this community can see You, so this state can see You, so this world can see You,” Dr. Fant prayed.
