CHRONOLOGY OF PROJECT Summer/Fall 2018
The president’s Executive Leadership Council (ELC) initiated a review of the previous plan, the “2015-16 to 2019-20 Strategic Plan” (“15-16 to 19-20 Plan”), with a commitment to produce a new plan by the fall of 2019. Executive Vice President Rich Grimm was tasked with facilitating the planning process and engaging the Board of Trustees, ELC and a cross-sectional group from within the NGU community as needed. Administrative units throughout the university, led by their ELC representatives, provided input and updates to the “15-16 to 19-20 Plan” throughout the summer and fall of 2018. Materials were collected, collated and presented to the Board of Trustees at its fall meeting on Sept. 20, 2018. The updated “15-16 to 19-20 Plan” was posted on the My NGU portal and made available to the NGU community.
Spring 2019
The ELC engaged in a comprehensive review and evaluation of the “15-16 to 19-20 Plan” at its Jan. 4, 2019, planning retreat, initiating a year-long process of developing a new strategic plan. The ELC committed to a process that would yield a plan that was institutionally focused, containing qualitative and quantitative measurements. The ELC recommended that the “15-16 to 19-20 Plan” be presented to the Board of Trustees for review; the “15-16 to 19-20 Plan” was distributed to the board at its Feb. 21, 2019, meeting. At the April 11, 2019, Board of Trustees meeting, the Executive Committee of the Board recommended that the “15-16 to 19-20 Plan” be received as completed and that NGU’s administration begin the process of developing a new strategic plan for the university by the October meeting of the board; the board unanimously approved both recommendations.
Summer/Fall 2019
Key pillars, stack poles around which the plan would be developed, were identified and drafted in July 2019. Draft 1 of the new strategic plan was developed with input from across the NGU community, as led by members of the ELC. Draft 2 of the new strategic plan was reviewed by a cross representative committee, whose members included Travis Agnew (Board of Trustees), Danny Conard (Campus Enhancement Services), Steve Crouse (ELC), Sheila Dilleshaw (Information Technology), Web Drake (Academics), Zach Epting (Athletics), Jan Foster (Academics), Maria Kithcart (Enrollment and Marketing/Communications), Brenda Peavy (Business Office) Jared Thomas (Campus Ministries & Student Engagement), Keli Sewell (Student Services) and Lamont Sullivan (Advancement). Input from the committee was collated and reflected in the strategic plan, leading to the production of Draft 3. Draft 3 was reviewed by the ELC, with input collated and reflected in the production of Draft 4. Draft 4 was distributed to the Board of Trustees and approved unanimously at its fall meeting on Oct. 24, 2019. “NGU2025: Foundations for the Future” was then published on the My NGU portal.
