OUR EXPERTS

Volga-Dnepr Group’s transport and logistics specialists are on hand 24/7 to offer help and advice to customers and to share the knowledge and expertise accumulated over 26 years of more than 90,000 flight operations to 1,200 airports in over 190 countries, and the delivery of 4 million tonnes of cargo.

We have a big piece of cargo that needs a special temperature environment during transportation. It is not containerised. What are the temperature control ranges and capabilities of your fleet?

Vlad Vyschemirsky, Load Planning Manager, and Colin Taylor, Load Planner at Volga-Dnepr, answer:

We can transport large pieces of cargo utilising the different aircraft types in the Volga-Dnepr Group fleet:

Boeing 737

The maindeck temperature control allows us to keep the temperature from +18°С to +30°С but usually it is around 20°С+. The lower deck temperature in the Forward cargo compartment can be kept within a range of +18°С to +30°С The Aft cargo hold has no air conditioning or ventilation. No temperature sensitive cargo or live animals are allowed to be loaded in the Aft cargo hold.

Boeing 747 An-124-100

The An-124-100 aircraft can maintain temperatures of +10°C +20°C ±5°C in its cargo cabin. The Antonov’s cargo cabin is not equipped with an air conditioning function. Consequently, we can warm up the air in the cargo cabin but we are unable to reduce it. This is important to understand if we have high air temperature at the ground when we load cargo into our aircraft. However, the air in the cargo cabin will cool down naturally after take-off and will be within the limits mentioned in approximately 40 minutes.

The Boeing 747 aircraft conditioning system provides selectable temperature control (both heating and cooling capability) to each cargo hold between +4°C and +29°C. A variable amount of hot bleed air (trim air) is mixed with cooled air supplied by the air conditioning packs (a/c packs) to achieve a selected temperature.

B747-400F, -400ERF and B747-8F models have three a/c packs.

For on the ground operation (when the aircraft engines are off) ventilation and temperature control are provided by aircraft air conditioning packs and auxiliary power units.

IL-76TD-90VD

We have an air conditioner in the aircraft’s cargo cabin, which is able to keep the air temperature +5°C to +20°C ±5°C.
