NEWS ROUND-UP Dubai DF resumes operations in DXB T2
Dubai Duty Free has resumed operations for departing passengers at Dubai International Airport Terminal 2, according to a post on the retailer’s Facebook page. As first reported by TRBusiness, trading
recommenced on 3 June in the Concourse B West retail area, following an inspection the previous day by the Dubai Civil Aviation authority.
Earlier in the same week, Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Dubai Duty Free said the resumption of Terminal 2 operations would represent ‘more good news’ for passengers flying on non- Emirates flights. “We were very pleased to receive the
approval from the Government authorities to open our shops in Concourse B West and we are happy to be back and serving our customers once more. “We have been planning the re-opening
since mid-April and have put in place an extensive range of sanitisation and re- zoning measures that will ensure the safety of our customers and our staff. McLoughlin said the reopening of

(Arrivals 4 and Landside), under phase of two of the retailer’s shop reopening plan. Concourse B East, Concourse C,
Concourse D and T3 Arrivals Unit 3 are expected to re-open under phase three. Plans to re-open Concourse A and Al
Maktoum Airport were yet to be confirmed, correct at the time TRBusiness went to press for this issue.
MEADFA cancels 2020 conference
This year’s Middle East and Africa Duty Free Association (MEADFA) Conference has been called off, the association has announced. The event was due to be held on 23-
24 November in Dubai, but the ongoing economic pain caused by the coronavirus, associated travel restrictions and uncertainty has scuppered the plan. MEADFA President Haitham Al Majali
said: “After continuously monitoring the current health crisis and staying in close contact with our partners and delegates, we have decided to cancel this year’s MEADFA Conference. “This was an extremely difficult decision
to take, given the importance of the event and its role in supporting our advocacy work, but the Board unanimously feels that it would not be appropriate to go ahead with the event in
the current context. “We will continue to monitor the
situation as it develops, before announcing the dates for our next conference. We thank our members, sponsors and business partners across the region for their understanding.” In a statement, MEADFA says it will
launch in due course a series of interactive online forums, designed to present the views of retailers, brands and landlords.
