REAP THE BENEFITS BY JOINING A LOCAL NETWORK GROUP – IT’S A GREAT CHANCE TO POOL IDEAS ON PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
We know that many members join SET to connect with other practitioners and professionals across the sector. Continuing to build our community has been the core focus of our work this year. We are doing this not just by growing our members, but by supporting more of you to share your knowledge and improve your practice together.
This is why our Local Network Groups (LNGs) are so important as informal, local and free practitioner-led spaces where you can meet and learn from each other. Our groups in London, Kent, Bradford, Newcastle and Bolton have grown and, from January 2019, the network will expand to include Nottingham, Portsmouth, Sheffield, Leicester, Gloucester and Birmingham. Each group is led by members who are experienced in supporting other practitioners. It can be a challenge to build a community in a sector this diverse, but whatever your role and the nature of your organisation, everybody is working to improve outcomes for their students, apprentices and learners. To help keep professional practice at the heart of everything, each event is now mapped to the Professional Standards. This allows you to identify how each network event will benefit your work. are also an opportunity to meet other people working for the same goal and support each other through the process. For others, it’s a chance to build your confidence in a supportive environment, and to practise your leadership skills by hosting a session for the group, so that you are better equipped for your work. Attendees decide the next event theme
together, so they remain relevant to your development. There are plenty of opportunities to attend, as each local group hosts three events per year, in the autumn, spring and summer. All members can attend for free and we also make a limited number of tickets available for non-SET members, who can attend one meeting, so you can introduce a colleague to the Society. Our autumn events were fully booked with a waiting list, so we recommend looking out for your email invitation. To look out for future events, join the
Facebook Local Network Group page. Full details of our LNGs can be found by clicking Communities under the Professionalism tab on the SET website’s home page. You can check on future networking events by clicking Upcoming SET Network Events under the News and Events tab on SET’s home page.
