Our ambition was to achieve an outstanding grade at our next Ofsted inspection and move teaching and learning from good to outstanding. Becoming a SET Corporate Partner was part of our strategy to better support both managers and tutors in achieving our ambition. In May this year Ofsted judged our provision to be outstanding, with no areas for improvement. Joni Cunningham is principal of Redbridge Institute, a community learning and skills provider.

ESSENTIAL TEACHING SET Corporate Partner since August 2017.

The benefits for us include the professional status of corporate partnership and recognition of the professional development of my staff and my company. The partnership also demonstrates to our trainee teachers that we deliver in accordance with SET Codes of Practice and that we will support them in completing QTLS.

All our trainee teachers take advantage

of the free SET membership during their initial teacher training (ITT) programme, which ensures that they develop the level of knowledge and professional development required to become a Member of SET and also post ITT to complete their QTLS status. As a corporate partner we use the

professional development online, our ITT is aligned to the ETF Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers and, in the near future, we hope to be involved with the Local Networks. As director of education and training, I hold the ETF and SET in high regard, having joined the Institute for Learning (IfL) back in 2011 and achieving my QTLS when it was initially launched. Gavin Lumsden is director of education and training at Essential Teaching, an independent education and training company and consultancy.

DERBY COLLEGE SET Corporate Partner since September 2018. We joined the partnership to elevate the fact that the sector is full of skilled professionals. It was also to encourage

our staff to further recognise the work that they do and to be able to access a peer network, wide support and to view a range of resources which can help to develop practice. We are new partners, but we have taken the opportunity to use the partnership to support teachers to improve their practice and as a way to recognise and help teacher mentors, teaching and learning coaches, and teachers engaged in innovation and research. We will be promoting the partnership

as part of the organisation’s deep development of practitioners being empowered professionals. We consider this an extension to it. All of our practitioners refer to the

Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers and this is used to develop CPD opportunities and to inform personal development plans. The resources and information through SET allow for more sharing and access to a broader range of materials to improve theory into practice. We saw that others had gained a

lot from being SET members and the SET team spent time with us reviewing our teaching, learning and assessment activities and strategy, and helping us to empower all our staff as professionals focused on teaching and learning. Robin Webber-Jones is director of teaching, learning and assessment, HE and teacher training at Derby College.

BUCKINGHAMSHIRE COLLEGE GROUP SET Corporate Partner since October 2018.

One of Bucks College Group’s strategic goals is to attract and retain highly motivated teachers and assessors. We have 61 staff signed up so far through the SET partnership. We recognise that prospective candidates want to work in an environment where they feel they are valued and there are benefits. We’re really proud to offer our staff corporate partnership with SET as we see it as one of our staff benefits. The access to teaching, learning and assessment resources which our corporate partnership offers will enable our staff to develop their skills and knowledge and inspire them to deliver high-quality lessons. Bucks College Group

has a programme of staff development planned throughout the year. During these sessions staff have the opportunity to reflect on their practice and share strategies with each other. Our corporate partnership complements this process by sharing practice of teachers and assessors from other organisations. SET corporate partnership reflects

our values to have professional teachers who are recognised for their valuable contribution to students’ education. Paula Kavanagh is senior lead in teaching, learning, assessment & HE at Buckinghamshire College Group.

BROOKLANDS COLLEGE SET Corporate Partner since October 2017. We use the SET logo on our website and we direct staff to the free training. We contacted SET when we had our Teacher Conference to ask for books, pens and marketing material, and they offered us a speaker. The online training opportunities are easy to access and support our staff. SET is an organisation demonstrating

professional standards and it’s specific to the further education sector. Amanda Wayling is head of professional development at Brooklands College, Surrey.

COLLEGE OF WEST ANGLIA SET Corporate Partner since January 2018.

The college has a high-level focus on key managers responsible for teaching, learning and assessment. They lead, and must be seen to lead, on expectations for this fundamental function. Working tirelessly to address our areas

for development after a disappointing Ofsted inspection outcome, we felt SET Corporate Partnership would help our managers in talking with staff about areas for development. Awareness of latest thinking and considerations around teaching, learning and assessment is an imperative for those working on quality improvement and facilitating staff improvements with very precious finite time and financial resources. Andrew Gedge is assistant principal quality and outcomes at the College of West Anglia.
