The winning national men’s interscholastic polo team and coach receiving their Touch of Class Awards at the Maryland Polo Club
recently won 2017 national polo championships with its July and August Touch of Class Award. T e winning national women’s interscholastic polo team was comprised of coaches and team- mates from Garrison Forest School in Reister- stown. T e award was presented at the Maryland Horse Council barbecue on September 9 at the Congressional Polo Club in Poolesville to Cindy Halle, coach; Kaycie Campbell, assistant coach; team members Lila Bennett, Hannah Reynolds, Olivia Reynolds and Emily Wiley. T e next day the winning national men’s interscholastic polo team received the award following a game at the Maryland Polo Club grounds at Ladew Gardens in Monkton. T e award was presented to Kelly Wells, coach; team members Jack McLean, Parker Pearce,
monthly to Marylanders and their horses who achieve national and international recognition. T e award began in Septem- ber 2011 named in honor of the Mary- land-bred Olympic Grand Prix jumper champion Touch of Class. Since then over 200 Maryland people and horses from 26 diff erent equestrian disciplines have been honored.

The Importance of a Hashtag For those who might be new to social
media, the hashtag might seem like just a lot of unnecessary extra work. But in real- ity, hashtags (a.k.a. the # symbol proceed- ing a word or phrase) are important to the social media world. For example, say you are on Twitter and want to see all the posts related to Fair Hill International or Washington Inter- national Horse Show… simply search for #DuttaFHI or #WIHS and hundreds of posts from all over the world will show up. Cool, huh! But why care? Hashtags con- nect social media users just as much tag- ging them in a post! Want to know who else might be tailgating at FHI or attend- ing barn night at WIHS, post a tweet and

and trained T oroughbred racehorses from 1921 until 1953. “T e Wider World of Jim McKay: Celebrat- ing His Life and His Work” is an exhibit on McKay’s life that will be open before the recep- tion and awards presentation. McKay’s family will be accepting the award while Bill Boniface, a friend of McKay, will share remarks. McKay began covering racing here in Mary- land in November of 1947 with live reporting from Pimlico Racecourse. From there, McKay’s love aff air with racing began and he covered several Triple Crown races for ABC as well as heading to England to cover bigger races such as the Royal Ascot.
