Thoroughbred Breeding on the Rise T e Maryland Horse Breeders Association


(MHBA) released statistics that show a rise in Maryland-sired foal production for the 2022 breeding season. According to the October 18 MHBA press release, the Jockey Club 2022 Breeding Statistics shows that Maryland was one of four states to show an increase in foal production, with 498 live foals by Maryland stallions as of October 8, 2023. T is number represents a 3.5% increase from 2021, when only 481 foals were reported. In addition, Maryland was the state that


showed the second highest rate of increase, coming right behind Indiana, which reported 5.2% increase. New York showed a 2.4% in- crease while Kentucky showed a 0.9% increase. In 2022, there were 744 mares across the


country bred to Maryland's 26 T oroughbred stallions. Murmur Farm's Blofeld produced the most live foals (61) from 86 mares covered. Second on the stallion list was Northview Stal- lion Station's Engage with 47 live foals, fol- lowed by Country Life Farm's Divining Rod with 45 live foals.

nity. T ey are curious, beautiful animals and that someone, anyone, would treat a horse in this way defi es comprehension. Everyone at our organi- zation is simply sickened by this discovery. As we work together with animal control

AAEP Issues Safety Recommenda- tions for U.S. TB Racing
