ADVOCACY & PUBLIC POLICY

A Big Thank-You, and a Call

At the end of 2021 and into the beginning of 2022, Argentum staff and supporters want to offer a thank you for your contin- ued support and engagement over these challenging past two years, as we’ve worked together to combat COVID-19, secure crit- ical resources and support, and position our industry for the years and decades to come. Let’s build on this momentum moving

into 2022. There are three primary ways to support the interests of our industry and mission:

1. Contribute to the Argentum Advocacy Fund.

What it is: Corporate contributions. Where it goes: Directly to converting power into solid policy, fighting misguided regula- tions, and elevating the senior living industry through direct lobbying, policy expertise, le- gal challenges, research supporting industry policy positions, and the public relations and media campaigns needed to tell our story. Highlights: Campaigns making the case for release of Provider Relief Funds and imple- mentation of Phase 4.

What it is: Individual contributions—a sepa- rate segregated fund (SSF) for contributions from eligible individuals within the senior living industry. Each year, Argentum mem- ber companies compete in the Granger Cobb Cup Competition for Excellence in Political Action, working together to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of Silver PAC. • Phase 4 of the Provider Relief Fund (PRF) • Kept PRF funds out of the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act

• “Release the PRF” campaign, which culminated in September with the announcement of $17 billion in this latest phase

• “Don’t Leave Assisted Living Behind, Again,” urging additional relief and support to senior living providers in Phase 4 relief, the Build Back Better bill (reconciliation/ human infrastructure) and other legislative vehicles.

• Advocacy efforts recognized in this year’s list of The Hill’s Top Lobbyists.

shape the policy landscape and champion issues of importance for the senior living industry, ultimately helping them to return to office and advance our shared mission. Highlight: Through appealing to lawmakers through our “Save the PRF” campaign— against all odds—we successfully ensured that not a single PRF dollar was used to pay for the infrastructure package.

3. Direct advocacy to policymakers. What it is: Your grassroots advocacy—host- ing a tour of a community, writing letters,

and talking about the issues in your neigh- borhoods, communities, and states. Infor- mation and how-tos are on our website, in issues of Senior Living Executive magazine, and through Argentum Advocates bulletins and webinars. Where it goes: Direct advocacy shows pol- icymakers the people and the realities be- hind the issues—how we care for residents and support our frontline caregivers. Highlight: Establishing Argentum Advo- cates, where advocates can learn about issues and get their voices heard.
