searches in Brittany, access to the coast is an essential consideration. “The nearer you are to the coast, the bigger your budget will need to be. Go just 30 minutes inland and you’ll fi nd considerably cheaper properties. And if you’re 60 minutes inland, property is cheaper still,” says Lisa Green, area co-ordinator

frenchestateagents.com). “Brittany is great for families, with well-resourced schools and plenty of activities. It’s also great for those looking to retire, with good hospitals, few waiting lists and excellent healthcare services.” For those seeking city

rural and village properties in Brittany as a whole, has outstripped supply, with more French and international buyers being attracted to the area. But many local agents predict a correction in 2023 as the market is starting to see a more cautious approach to buying. Ille-et-Vilaine remains the most expensive of Brittany’s four departments, thanks to Rennes, while Côtes- d’Armor, with average house prices around 30% less, is the cheapest. Here a nice, ready- to-move-into, three-bedroom house costs about €120,000.
