In 1995, Alison and Francis Hudson moved to a rural farming hamlet
in Deux-Sèvres in search of a less stressful lifestyle. “We restored a ruin in Brittany when our children were very young, and while we loved that region, we finally chose Poitou- Charentes for its climate and stunning architecture. We had a very precise wish list of the kind of property we were looking for, and spent a couple of years househunting. In those days, there was no rush as nobody else was interested! “In 1995 we moved to our
beloved Mandegault and still live in Le Clos des Jardins, where we run holiday cottages. The pace of life here is a gentler trot and village traditions have changed over the last 30 years but are
still very much alive, remastered by the younger generation who now tend to stay rather than ‘escape’ to Paris. Our sons Ben and Jack grew up here, worked abroad, then returned to the region along with their partners – we’re all passionate about the rural environment and quality of life in Poitou-Charentes. “We keep saying we’ve
finished with renovation projects but we fell in love with another gem in St-Jean-d’Angely, so we’re off again! We take real pride in what we do; we get a huge sense of satisfaction from welcoming guests from all over the world and inviting them to share in our lifestyle of fresh, organic garden produce, local traditions, homemade jams, basil wine, free range eggs and occasional shared evening meals under the lime tree…”
